Default year range for 6.0 liter cars in US

I think I want a 6.0 liter xjs. What was the year range in the US? 92- or 94-? And if the 5.3 and the 6.0 were both available in a same year, can you tell from a photo of the engine bay?

If one just means the "standard" 6.0 litre (as opposed to the XJR-S) then it's fairly easy to identify them. They all have a VIN higher than 188105 (May 1993) and they have big plastic bumpers. This is the changepoint after which there were no more 5.3 cars.

Hope that helps

Paul

I've always wondered when/where the breakpoint was.

Did the earliest 6.0 XJSs carry a 1993 VIN or 1994 VIN?

Cheers

I am new to the XJS. And owning an '97 XJR6 I think I would much prefer the XJR-S. However I am assuming that it will be a MUCH more difficult find. I am looking into a 92 v12 right now as a possible stepping stone car. But, everytime I see a video with a jag motor that sounds like a racing cat, its the 6 liter. Eventually I would like to do a TWR track car'ish replica. It's probably another thread... But my XJR6 is not something you can really take a XJ6 and build. Too many engineering changes. Are their XJS models that are the same. IE 2 fuel pumps etc? I dont think there are any US 5speeds and that would be one modification I would want in this project. And not a simple one.

search for the driven man's website For a 5 speed conversion For v12 cars. Jag never put a 5 speed in a v12 car, but did offer it in I6 cars. In the US, it was 1993 and 1994 only and about 200 cars came over here. 5.3 V12s can be built to 6.0 or even bigger. That's what TWR did. But there are better computers available today than when TWR did it. If you just want a TWR, get one. But if you just want a car that runs like a TWR, you can do that with any xjs v12. I think the bell housing mounts are different on the 6.0 cars (ask others tho) but 5.3 and 6.0 blocks are substantially similar otherwise. Other components like fuel system, ignition, etc vary more.

Engine bay wise 6.0 has a smaller capstan, engine top cover and no heat fins on top of the intake manifold but a "square" the jaguar v-12 name plates went in ( some buy them and stick them on top of the 5.3 fins). Also the 6.0 air box snorkels go up to and pull air in from the top/front of the radiator shroud.

Trust Jaguar to make things complicated..... My '92 facelift 5.3 V12 has the smooth intake manifolds. I think the air boxes are the easiest visual clue as I've seen more than one 6.0 without the engine top cover
