2010 XKR Supercharger Torsion Isolator
One for you to check. Can't imagine I am the first or will be the last to have this occur.

2010 Jaguar XKR 5.0 with 77,000 on the clock. Perfect service history.
Looks to be a known issue with these Superchargers. Jaguar issued a technical bulletin regarding it and we did the repair under warranty. The torsion isolators job is to cut down on chatter at low revs. Problem, is the hardened spring, starts to eat the pulley shaft. End result is , you end up with a sound like marbles being thrown around the engine.
Nose section of the supercharger was replaced as part of the repair kit.
Although not Jaguar I am pretty positive this is the same unit fitted to a different car.
This link does a better job of explaining this than I can.

If you are doing this job, it's an ideal opportunity to change the upper pulley.

If the pulley change gives an extra 25-40HP is this the reason for the 40HP difference between the 5.0 XKR to XKR-S. Would I expect to see a smaller pulley on the S or is there another way to get the additional HP from the stock R. Also if you do this change on an S what is the projected HP gain over the 550.

Thanks again for bringing up this issue.

Judging by the dates they were published on Jaguar's website they probably have the same content because they were published within a couple of weeks of each other.

Just today I opened up my 2012 XKR hood with 19,500 miles on her to start her up and see how the battery charger is keeping the car and see if there is any tire pressure lights on.
I heard marbles in the engine!!! Mind you not nearly as bad as the marbles you hear in the video of the 2010....but they WERE THERE.
Too check and make sure I was not hearing things I also went ahead and started up my 2013 XKR-S with only 2012 miles on her. NO Marbles at all.
Sounds like my supercharger in the 2012 needs some work!!
Question: is it just an annoying sound that occurs with these superchargers over time and needs replacement or "fixing" or is the engine supercharger going to fail somehow???

Presumably these are units with bad couplers... "more than 10 available"
