I think I may be watching this thread with interest. The SQ of the system in there is pretty decent, but only goes up to moderate volume. I'd certainly not mind a little more SP as long as the SQ didn't suffer.

I'm not even sure where the stock amps are and if there's enough space to put in aftermarket units there. I'm not overly keen on sacrificing any of the precious little cargo space in the trunk to the Audio Gods.

Excellent!! You're in good company..

GN4HIR and I both upgraded the audio and, independently, were pretty much on the same path - similar approach, different components. In this forum thread, you'll get some great information, including the photos that GN4HIR took and posted during his install (kudos to him). I just finished mine about two weeks ago and haven't had a chance to update that thread with where I ended, but will shortly.

I just posted this Youtube video on what I did. Together, these two will give you a great idea of what you're working with and how to approach it.

THere are less expensive approaches. I'm not the best person to ask on this but, in my mind, the ascending cost sequence would probably be something like this, assuming you want to keep the head unit: Replacing front speakers with quality, efficient 5-1/4" speakers; replace the amp to drive the fronts (and sub, if you go that far); add a DSP (it may be required with an amp replacement; not sure); add a sub into a custom enclosure; sound dampening the doors.

Information on the web reports the front speakers as 5-1/4" with 2" mounting depth and the sub as 8" -- neither of which are correct. In GN4HIR's photos, you'll see that the doors have a 4" depth. The OEM amp and sub are beneath a plate on the passenger side footwell.

Good luck and let us know which way you go with it, and feel free with any questions. GN4HIR knows his stuff; he's a good resource.

In T-minus 5 hours I will have approximately 2400 Watts of stereo sound in my XKR. I will keep you all posted

The enclosure is wrapped in suede and the car has been completely sound dampened. The installer did a hell of a job and i couldn't be more pleased with the work.
