$600 for a bulb??? Obscene
Recently had warranty service preformed for AC fan blower motor. Driver side headlight had just gone out. SA priced replacement of "burner" at $600. $150 to diagnose and $450 for the replacement and labor.
Exhorbitant Ludicrous and Obscene. Highway Robbery at its worst. Is this some sick joke. Baptism by fire!!!!
Isn't a decent bulb about $80-100???

GAH! $600 ???
I am positively NOT an authority on modern automotive lighting....Jaguar or otherwise.... but some quick Googling suggests you can get aftermarket replacements for under $100.
<shrug>
I think "factory boxed" replacement bulbs might be universally outrageous. One site listed a genuine BMW replacement bulb at "just $454" or something like that.
I didn't dig any deeper. This sorta money ....even $100 for an aftermarket....is wayyyyy out of my comfort zone for a headlight bulb :-)
Cheers

Maybe by "burner" he's referring to the HID bulb's electronic ballast unit? Little flat, square box-of-tricks about three inches square or so?

From the Urban Dictionary...
Burned
1) an expression used to describe a particularly harsh insult (a burn)
2) an expression used when someone had a negative past experience
3) when an extreme amount of heat is applied to something long enough to alter it
Man, you got burned by that loser!
My childhood really burned me.
Damnit, the toaster burned me!

In the mid 70s I drove my XJ6C from Cleveland to Denver in Jan. On the way the heater quit. I went to Denver Jag, whoever they were at the time, and they fixed it for 2 hrs labor and $100 parts cost.
The part? A plastic vacuum valve available in any parts store for $2. I questioned the price, vigorously. They called NJ to get to the bottom of it. Everybody knew something was amiss but there was nobody in North America who would own the problem.
In sum, the answer was "There is no earthly reason for our parts pricing policy. It' just our policy". Nothing has changed in 40 years. Sounds a lot like the Army don't it .
