07-09 XK Reliability Question

Very nice and welcome aboard. I also highly recommend Jagwrangler remote top control with rear window control accessory and the windshield sunshade. One more thing to consider is the wind deflector. Adamesh out of the UK has the deflector at about half of the OEM price or you can try Mina Gallery.

Thank you all for the warm welcomes.
I think the sun shade should be the first addition.
After that, I think fixing up the curb rash on the rims.
The XK is the proper choice. Lovely growl. The XKR would definitely chew out the tire budget.
I love having the top down. Is there recommendation to keeping the top mechanism in top working order?
Any recommendations on tires? or should I say tyres
Does anyone keep up with navigation disk upgrades?

Thanks to You...I am now in the club!
This thread answered all my many many questions, so thank you, everyone. Like Flynnstone I also bought a Jaguar XK (2007 with 30K orig miles), based on all the great info here! AND I just ordered the beautiful gear shift knob & wind screen! You guys are the best! Dawn

My two cents... my car is a 2008 4,2 supercharged XKR and, so far, it has been 100% reliable and has had nothing more than routine maintenance plus consumables. I am told that the 4.2 V8 is 'bulletproof' and that reassures me (as do Vince's comments above). That engine has been around for ever, so by the time it found its way into the XK cars, pretty much everything important had been sorted. Based on my experience with the car, I'd recommend you go that route for sure. The 5.0L models have various advantages but the 4.2 cars are solid.
I come from a long line of Porsche 911s, so maybe this is why I don't entirely agree with Vince about the ride of the XKR. Seems supple enough to me, for the sort of car it is. I'm sure the XK is even more smooth, but I wouldn't say that the R is harsh or uncomfortable (even on UK roads). After the 911s, it seems positively luxurious to me And, of course, you do get a sportier feel and a handling bonus with the R. I can see the attraction of the XKs though, and they are a lot less expensive too. TBH, I'd be delighted with either.
