I've owned a 97 XK8 and an 07 XK.
On paper the 07 XK only has a few more HP than the old non supercharged engine but the car is almost as quick as a the old XKR (which has 100 more HP).
Old XK8 wouldn't trip the traction control in a straight line no matter how hard I stomped on the accelerator - new one will at 3/4 throttle with 285/30ZR20 tyres on the back which are quite a bit wider.
The new transmission is much better as well.
But, best part of the new ones is the exhaust note![Smile](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I'd recommend trying to test drive an 04 or 05 XKR, then an 07 XK, then, if that's still not fast enough, try an 07XKR.
07 uses less gas as well - I went from averaging 13mpg to 16 or 17 but it has a smaller tank so have to fill up as often.
I can't wait for the 500hp, 5.0 litre models to become affordable

I've owned an '01 XK8 an '05 XK8 and an '07 XK. Althgough they all were beautiful, I prefer the looks of the '07 XK. The '07 XK has much better performance the either XK8 and I love the exhaust sound of the '07 XK. I also like the new top opening system much better than the old one. In my opinion, the '07 XK is a much better car. One small negative note, I miss not being able to open/close the top from outside the car like I could on the XK8s.
