Nine years old + high mileage + high price = No sale

 

nine years old+EXTREMELY high mileage+EXTREMELY high price = lawn ornament not a car sale. I'd be shocked if they got anywhere near $6K let alone the $15K they're asking.

"Good" condition private party sell on KBB says $9600 I doubt they'll see anywhere near that number

 

Look at that VIN... B00608, that is one early production car, maybe the first one across the pond?

 

Thats why they say the most get poorer, they misspend money. Yes you can get a Jaguar for 20k, but it wont be worth much when you buy it, nor when you sell it. So you just paid 20k without getting any gratification that Jaguar actually affords. Or they could buy a car like yours, enjoy the daylights out of it and still be able to sell it for 20k down the road.

 

I drive a Lexus LS 460 and a Cayenne S as dailies. Just sold my ninth Porsche as I was not driving it much.
Looking for something as a go to dinner or take the toddlers around the block because there car seats don't fit.
I bought my 07 with 30,000 miles and could not give it away at 60,000 miles.
So I guess I am looking for a "cheap " something to play with.
If I decide to spend $40,000 + on a toy it will be a Porsche. After ten years club racing in PCA Jag repair costs are not even a consideration. However non existent resale is.

Chaos I did not realize you were the one looking.
Buy a high mileage single owner car. Here is my logic and see what others think of it. Mileage does not seem to hurt these cars (like porsche), but uncaring owners does.

In the old days we would say that a car that has done 60k has proven it was assembled right and on Monday not Sat morning.

 

Chaos, you mentioned the dollar figure of $40K... you can easily get a nice 07 XKR with low miles (sub 50K) for under $30K. For $35K - 38K you can easily get a 2010 XKR with over 500HP with low miles.

I'd suggest go drive one of each model (2007-2009 model and 2010 model) see if you fall in love with it. If massive power is your thing then only look at XKR models, if you're fine with very good power don't discount the XK with 300hp in 2007 and 385 in 2010+. I think you'll find it FAR different from your Lexus. Your Porsche is an SUV, as nice as it is it is still an SUV so no comparison. Driving a 911, newer Boxster S, or Caymen would give you that visceral feeling of a sports car that neither of your current cars offer. Porsches are VERY nice but unless you get a GT2, GT2, 918 or Carrera GT they are very common garnering very little exclusivity as does the Jag and I think you'll find the Jag is more reliable contrary to those who have not owned a recent one.

Jags with 90K or over miles would be VERY tough to get rid of, once it hits 125K there is a VERY limited market even at a low price so something to consider.

Agreed. With two toddlers I don't get to drive much for fun. Looking for something very inexpensive to fool around with. Trying to sell a 60,000 mile XK in 2012 left a very bad taste.
I know this would be a tough resale.
I looked into Porsche 928 (87-89 S4's) but the service is way too much work. Would require constant trips to my Indy.
Mercedes CLK are another option but no real lust.

 

I really like the color of the Chicago car, similar to the Cayenne S.
Had a 1966 XKE convertible in green which is why I like the one in Kentucky.
Looked for a while for a rain forest green metallic Porsche turbo unsuccessfully but that green on the XK is close.
Almost bought a blk/tan XKR but the sales experience was horrible so I bought a 997.

 

928S4 is NICE! I'd have to imagine the price point on those is up there now is it now? Few were made thought they were becoming collectors items. And YES those would be expensive to keep running/looking good. CLK = booorrriinng. Just a cheap fun car why not a Boxster if it is just for you? Prices there range from @$12K-14K for a 2000S up in great shape and fairly low miles. I've had a few of them they are a blast! I LOVE my XK conv and its been perfect maintenance wise and was able to get it for under $23K with low miles but it took some time

I'd also suggest a 2007-08 MBZ SL500. The only other car that checks all the boxes on my list, in terms of comfort, fun, power --and a quote-unquote "back seat area" that's unfit for humans, great for stowage. (My stepdad had a Caddy XLR and while that was fun to drive there was NO storage in the passenger area. Zero.)

I'm talking the last two years of that SL body style -not everyone likes the front, I don't mind it. Also the last years of built-like-a-tank MBZ. So it's in the newish-but-not-too-new sweet spot. Consequently, though, there's interest. A strong, reasonably priced one will go quick.

And I will tell you this from experience: I don't care how many miles, what the year... you will ALWAYS get resale interest on a used MBZ. If you do your homework and price aggressively, they're an easy sell. I don't know when or how Jags will really move beyond their unfortunate cost/reliability reputation as used cars. I intend to hold mine until well into the 100K+ mile, "dump it for a few grand" zone.

 

I have a 9 mo old and a 3 year old and a wife who will be riding with me. I need a four seater, not necessarily a cab. I only put a couple thousand miles a year on the car that fills this role.
Race car is sold. Lexus I still have and the former 997 both getting detailed/touched up.
Old XK, black is a part time job to keep clean! Love the sabre wheels. Wife's MDX across the street.

I was impressed by this particular XK with 290,100 miles, since it's a testament to the reliability and longevity of the X150. Read the CarFax: https://www.carfax.com/VehicleHistor...&partner=ATD_W - it's a ONE OWNER car with no reported accidents that apparently was meticulously maintained by the Jaguar dealer who sold it to the original owner, who obviously loved it.

If you take care of it, the 4.2L X150 is right up there with Honda and Toyota for longevity!

Taking that history into account makes me think that it's worth buying by the right person who has a limited budget and mechanical skills, particularly if he can get it for well under $10K. Of course, the buyer would have to to his due diligence to make sure that there aren't any major mechanical problems on the near horizon. Yes, the dealer has a tough sell, but that can mean a good opportunity for the right buyer.

 

If it gets that low it maybe time to think out of the box. Maybe pull the drive train and replace with an LS1,2 or 3 and a 5 or 6 speed manual. Could be a fun project car for the right money.

"Value" is purely in the eyes of the beholder, no one else matters. The KBB Bluebook is $9600, know that selling it later will be VERY tough if at all possible. Likely needs all rubber bushing replaced along with shocks and probably much more. Has not had the tranny fluid changed according to the CarFax so add another $1200+ to the cost for that alone. Under zero circumstances could I ever imagine myself purchasing a car with over 125K miles let alone over double that unless it was for a commercial where it was blown up and I am a competent DIY mechanic

 

I saw that one,looking for tan or light interior. My last black interior with tinted windows made it very dark inside. My last Lexus had black interior and I'm much happier with the tan now.
