102,000 mile XKR Is it worth buying
#21
Once again I want to thank everyone for their comments. I made a mistake and drove a XKR and the decision is over on that one. How hard is it to fix the dash coming away form the top of the a/c vents? I looked at another xkr that had this too. Let me tell you about me. I have had two convertibles xk's 1999, and 2005 and two xj's. I do enjoy putting the top down even in Houston where there is no clean air but some sunshine. Let me hear all your comments. I sent a message to the owner about the dash pulling way from the a/c vents and it has depression right of the dash speaker. I will let you know what he says. Thanks for all your help.

For this specific case it may be best to have an upholsterer redo the leather, usually cost between $700 and $1200 or purchase a used one from eBay. IF it were just the leather pulling from the windshield defrosters, it would have been an easier fix. A new one from Jaguar C2P10312RGV is $3800 and not likely worth it for this vehicle.

He wasnt having a used Jag to keep up appearances, or concerned with depreciation.
Took a $100k bath with $10k+ in taxes. And extracted a full 100,000 miles out of it.
So a buck a mile
I wonder, how many of us have paid more per mile, for used car (my hands are raised). And he never worried about a water pump or even knew it had one.
My dumb (but smarter than me) friends are always saying, you should never buy new, buy one few years old, and I have always wondered if all the smart folks buy used, who are these financially foolish folks buying new. Turns out they are good with money.

I've got a slight rise (bubble) in the leather on the passenger side of the dash. And it's beginning to pull away a little at the base of the windshield by the center speaker in the same way this one is. I say, meh.
Unless it gets worse, I'm gonna leave it. At your price point I'd say live with it.

While i do love a convertible....i just could not get past the looks of the coupe. Most of the verts i have owned didn't have a coupe counterpart. To me, the XK vert looks fantastic with the top down but with the top up...not so much. The rear quarter of the coupe is just fantastic!

There is an auction right now up for a car that the original owner bought new in 2958 and put on 500,000 miles.
Currently bid to over $200K.
I feel bad for those with Ferrari's that either guiltily try to roll back the odometer, or don't drive it.
