2007 Jaguar XK, ODBS says I need new Fresh air intake hose
I’m a new owner of a 82k miles Jaguar XK coupe. 2 days ago I got the dreaded check engine light. I rolled into autozone and had a diagnostics done. It said I needed a new fresh air intake hose. When I checked the hose, nothing looked wrong with it. Performance is the same, no issues driving. I reset the car and the engine light disappeared for 15 miles then came back on.
Has anyone had this problem or could they help me out with this?
That's just stupid. Go somewhere else and have the codes READ, so you can see them. Also have the STFT (short term fuel trim) checked, that would be an indicator.
You probably have a Lean Condition, on either bank 1 or 2, or both, or full system.
That's just a vacuum leak. Check around the engine for a loose or cracked vacuum hose or connection.
What you can ALSO do is get a can of starting fluid or carb cleaner and spray around the engine while it is running. If you spray a spot and the revs increase, that spot is the place to look hard.
You could also go to pretty much any auto shop and have a vacuum line smoke test. After you get the actual codes read, of course. Your problem may be a loose or faulty MAF sensor also.
Wow, thanks for the info!!
I’ll get it checked as soon as I can. Can I drive the car to the shop? Is this a problem that can damage the engine if I drive?
No more autozone. Buy yourself a proper code reader, bluetooth works just fine too. But if you have the time quickly check the intake boot and be sure its clamped on. I had an XJ8 with a bad motor mount and the boot would pop off once in a while. Had both replaced. It can happen in the XK also
Search Autel AP200 on this forum for a low cost code reader with JLR software.
The intake hose may indeed be loose at one or more points. I tend to go straight to a smoke test, because there's a 6-10 places where old gaskets, small hoses and some parts degrade over time on these vehicles. You can get one for $120 on Amazon and do your own leak tests.
High probability vacuum leak indicator is that your Long Term Fuel Trim (LTFT) starts to move away from it's ideal of 0%, towards +- 8-10%. It triggers a code at +- 20%.
