I don't have a digital read out on my voltmeter so it's hard to tell exactly but it looks like it's short of 12. I'm going to buy a charger today. Will update this after I charge it.

I really do appreciate the help guys!

So, the battery voltage is low...as I wrote this is almost certainly the cause of the problem, and please note: for ANY electrical issue on the XK, suspect low battery voltage FIRST. It is a proven fact that this is the cause of almost every complaint.
The solution: get a CTEK battery maintainer and USE it when the car is not in daily use. You will have full voltage at all times and ZERO problems. My 07 car is plugged in when it is not being driven, and I have had not a single problem of any kind, and this is the general experience of others. The maintainer should be kept outside the car so the battery condition can be monitored. If it is in the trunk area, just touching the trunk release button will send the maintainer into action which means that whenever you look at it, you will see the battery being charged, and that will give a false idea of its condition. The CTEK unit has a "comfort extension" available to permit the unit being outside the car. See the photo of my XK at rest.

So has this been resolved and what did you find out to be the problem.

Can you please point out the location of the switch. If you have a picture it would be great. Is it triggered by the partition in the closed position or in the open position. If you put a piece of metal in the upper location will it trigger the sensor.

It's still charging. Hopefully it will be fully charged this afternoon and I'll report then. I didn't start it until this morning.

Well I lied about it being fully charged. I thought it was but then went and purchased a digital voltmeter. It was only at 12 so I'm guessing the charger I purchased on takes it up to 12 not 12.6. Is that normal?

With the charger hooked up and on what is the voltage of the battery. The charger should be 13.7- 14V. Also what kind/type of charger are you using. You need to get a step down smart charger . Also the battery should be able to sit for 24 hrs and still show a 12.6V charge. As an FYI there are 6 sets of plates in a 12 volt battery. Each plate holds a 2.1V charge so 6 X 2.1 gives you a 12.6V full charge.
Now even at 12V your starter motor should have at least "clicked" or even turned over. I'm starting to think you may have other issues going on. If no one else hare can guide you I would suggest you call your nearest Jag dealer and talk to the service manager or their lead tech and discuss your issues.

I haven't had a chance to measure the V with the charger hooked up. Will get that done this morning.

Other than the top not going down I don't have any issues. The car starts fine and everything else works well so I don't think there are other issues.

That being the case I would focus on the cover present switch in the boot.

Jagtoes, I measured again this morning and it was only reading 11.9v. I don't think it got above 12 yesterday when I charged it and only read 12.2 today with the charger on it. I think I bought the wrong charger so I'm going back to exchange it. I'm going to focus on getting the voltage back up to 12.6.

Is there a way to test the switch? Or is it replaceable?

Check the left side of the luggage separator bar near the edge of the divider. You should see a metal clip as shown in the photo. The sensor detects the presence of this clip when the divider is deployed.

Make sure this clip did not fall off. Could this be the metal clip you found lying in your trunk?

WhiteXKR, I owe you brother. That was it. I knew that clip had to be part of the problem but was looking at the wrong piece. I was thinking it would be part of the main bar. Even after you posted that I had to come back and look to see where it was located. I never thought to look at the part that slides and then goes up. I appreciate everyone's help!

Wow, you have no clue how happy I am right now. If you knew how much I looked at that clip and search the trunk of the car and the separator trying to figure out where it might have come from.

It is not a common problem.

Hundreds of people have installed my remote top and have had to remove and reinstall the divider. I have never before run into this issue with the clip falling off before.
