2007 Xk 4.2 differential problems...
Hi all!
I was wondering if one or a few of you could help me out.... the other day I noticed that there was a whine type noise coming during acceleration between 60 and 120 km/h while driving I figured it to be my differential so when I parked my car I noticed that it appeared to have been leaking. I had my diff oil filled up which took over 1L to fill upon further inspection it appears the left output seal is toast.
Now I know I can get a seal kit but what worries me is the whine...
I've looked into it and it seems you can't get any of the individual components from Jag around where I live so I can't simply replace a bearing etc. Apparently you have to buy the entire differential assembly...
Compounding this issue is a tsb about the differential wherein there was a design change that requires not only the differential but also a new drive shaft... Yikes expensive!!
So my question is this... do any of you know of a way where I can get these components for the differential or do you think my problem may be fixed with the new seals and a top up. I know usually when you start hearing the whine it's usually too late and a bearing or a gear might be toast or scuffed.
Any help would be awesome thanks!

Thanks for the quick response! I did get a chance to top up the oil and test it out. Sound is still there. I suspect that the leak is so bad it's not retaining the oil. I took it to the shop today they're going to try replacing the seals. If that's a no go then I might have to dig a bit deeper. Hopefully off the shelf bearings are compatible /available. As far as a wheel bearing would it make a difference there in sound if the throttle is on or off? There also isn't any change I. Sound when cornering. There does seem to be a fair bit of play on the left output shaft compared to the right however...

Seals are available from Jag, and the bearings are generic Ford ones.
Side seals, Jag p/n XR821244 (2x needed)
Pinion Seal, Jag p/n C2S1490 (1x needed)
Diff carrier bearings are p/n Timkin LM603049 available from various sources (google)
I don't have the part number for the pinion bearing, but try to find a "bearing kit" for a 2003 onwards Lincoln LS

Yes the diff in the 4.2L XK is the same as the X350 XJ, and S-Type & Lincoln LS from 2003 onwards.
When I had my Quaife LSD installed, those were the seals that came in the "kit"
Other members have confirmed that the Timkin P/N is correct for our cars.
