Default 2007 XK 4.2 Timing Chain??? **Panic Over**

That’s a £1 coin for scale (23m diameter)
Found this mangled metal on the drive, and when I started the engine there was a rattle so stopped immediately.
Looks like some kind of guide or bracket. It is stamped “K20” and has “Adamo” in a script font. I have googled and can’t find any definitive part.
I suspect it is associated with the timing chain but can anyone confirm before I book a recovery truck?

That’s a £1 coin for scale (23mm in diameter) Looks like I may need a few more of these!

The timing chain is entirely inside so for that to be associated with it there would need to be a big hole in the block or somewhere!

Having started the engine there would be MASSES of oil everywhere - which I feel you would have mentioned so don't have.

See if someone knows what it actually is.

I think you need to open the bonnet, get the engine covers off & have someone start the engine while you try & find out where the rattle is coming from

Doesn’t look like a part of the car. I would look about the engine compartment and underneath. Could be a pulley or tensioner’s gone off.

Thanks all for your feedback!
I checked under the bonnet today… no outward sights of the cause of the noise
I decided to try starting it, no sign of any rattle the engine… only a sweet V8 burble.
Not sure what I heard last night….. maybe some leaves got blown up into the engine bay in the high winds. A definite case of paranoia… (not had it long and loving every opportunity to drive it)

That piece flew up from the road and into the fan area and you panicked? I probably would also.
