Heh guys, I got the above car and about the 30% of the rear glass has separated from the convertible top. Was looking for some recommendations on glue or repair procedures. I realize the original process is probably a heat pressure
applied process. The best suggestion I have so far is to try a product from 3M Panel Bonding Adhesive 08115, Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
Don't use the 3M adhesive. It's messy and failed after a few months. Rhino Glue is still holding up after several years. Did you read the entire thread in my post #4, above?
If you read my posts, you would have seen the 3M products that I used. The first two didn't work for me:
1. 3M 08682 Single Step Primer (small bottle).
2. 3M 08609 Windo Weld Super Fast Urethane Black Cartridge.
3. 3M 08984 General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner.
Great! I was looking for that DIY sticky note that was mentioned in the email and I couldn’t find it if that’s where this message was at. I read down through a number of emails though and I did not see these pictures but anyways what you used is a different 3M product that from what I was advised by a company that does convertible top replacement. Thanks for response again.
Rhino glue and Suction Clamps really worked for me. Follow directions on the glue container and Suction instructions.
I had about the same separation except mine was on the bottom.
One thing I did do after the glass was reglued I took the second bottle in the Rhino glue package (Rhino Gel Glue) and very carefully
went around the entire window using the gel almost like caulking pushing the glue between the top and the glass forcing the gel into the space between
the two with a pointed wood dowel, take it slow and you can get a really nice seam.
If the bottom is separating the glue works very well are used both gorilla glue as well as the 3M glue. Not so lucky if the top is separating. If you look you can see that it’s actually a piece of material glued to the roof and then glued to the window you can see that on the on separated section. What I did was use gorilla tape as close as possible to the color of your roof. Cut the gorilla tape to slightly less than half an inch in width. Put tape on underside of the roof folded with the other side connecting to the glass . Any portion of the tape that does not adhere to the roof immediately are used gorilla glue to ensure firm attachment. This provides the flap for the window to connect to as it will not connect directly from the roof to the glass as the distance is too far . Mine has held up for over six months now it takes a little cleanup with a razor blade to ensure a smooth straight line as well as to clean up any excess glue. Be sure to not get any on the vinyl roof as it’s very difficult to clean off. I’ll add a photo of mine later.
