When putting the top down (opening), it stops when the back tonneau cover doesn't open to allow the top to fold and retract totally
The owner then opened the trunk and pulled the lanyard which popped the cover open which then allows the top to completely retract and finish.
I've put it back up to be safe.
I have yet to reset with the procedure (raising windows and holding window switch) or do anything else in the back trunk /pump area

Nice color by the way, that one has been growing on me. Not crazy about the wheels, but those are easily changed (just my worthless opinion, you may love ‘em).

So.. Re: the vert. top problems and not opening properly
When opening... The Tonneau opens slightly early before the top has time to fully retract and stow itself.
The arms on the top frame get snagged on the edge of the tonneau vinyl piece.
This is when the top closing process hangs.
So the problem seems to be in the timing of when exactly for the tonneau to start the lift.
I'm a bit relieved that it does not seem to be hydraulics or pump issue.
Simply a matter of "resetting" the circuit.
Removing the F8 fuse as mentioned is part of the reset procedure.
I'll also try the switch reset (hold down) also.
Will attach pics shortly.
Thx all!

For convertible top help go the the website: thejagwrangler.com or look for whitexkr on the forum. When you find either of the two suggestions you will have found our resident convertible to expert. His name is Steve Klonsky. He is a good guy and has invented and supplies the one touch top system which is probably the single best accessory you can ad to your XK.

Thanks, yes I have read his posts, seems to be quite the expert.
I don't want to burden him, when I'm sure he's been "tasked" with same issues oft times.
I know I'll find the solution here somewhere. It's just a bit "scattered" and difficult when trying to drill down on the exact process - fix for a fairly common problem.
Understandably there's a lot of great yet different answers to the same issue. No complaints, just keeping at it.

Default Convertible won't "stow"

Well i've restarted efforts to fix my XKR vert.
Tried all the usual fixes, battery disconnect, windows reset, pulled #8 fuse.
Just can't seem to get it. Now, waiting for the "mongoose" device with SDD software to try to sort out the data log errors.
The top will not "stow". when the top retracts it seems to not allow the tonneau cover to open. Yet, after releasing hydraulics and pulling fuse, I put it in stowed position.
It will then close.
Has anyone been able to sort out the data logger in SDD software and determine the problem source?
Attached is pic of when the top hangs. I have to release the switch of it will continue to try and open. It's already gouged the vinyl on the tonneau cover.

The position top hangs

Is something under the tonneau preventing it from closing? The rear part of the top shouldn't go past vertical until the tonneau is fully latched.

The potential problems according to the owner.
1. The convertible sometimes sticks with raising or lowering.
this I'm guessing (going to look at the car shortly)

This shouldn't involve more than a bit of electrical troubleshooting?
Or... Motor?

Here she is...

2. The passenger seat was replaced due to a slight scratch in leather.
After replacement, it has intermittent issues of no movement from switches.
3. The passenger rear view glass/mirror has bubbled due to excessive heat. (
This last issue I think I can figure out.
Suggestions re: the convertible and the passenger seat switch issues

Thx, (in advance).
Tim
If you buying it from a rich guy,you know it was garage kept and it looks like it's in great shape.Hydraulic pump for the roof might need to be replaced and that's it so it will be able to work like new again. That seat thing not a problem cause nobody adjusts their seat all the time.If no other problems, then that means you have you a perfectly fine XKR🔥💪

Cee Jay,
Sorry about the very delayed "reply".
If you might have noticed, but that's the top in the "opening/stowing" mode.
The tonneau cover is trying to open to allow the top to store.
The back-rear of the top is either not opening getting vertical enough to allow the tonneau cover to open or the tonneau is opening too early.
I've got the SDD and a "Mangoose" interface to try and start the "troubleshooting".
A couple guys thought the "module" might be corrupted.
I've done it all as suggested by Steve, i.e. pulled fuse, etc...
