2007 XKR Portfolio Cremona Wheel finish??
Hi All,
Having recently acquired my new XKR Portfolio, one of the things I had to get done were the wheels which were badly gutter scraped. As you may be aware the Portfolio Cremona wheels have a fairly specialised and unique finish, which I believe is referred to as “Shadow Chrome”.
I’m hoping that there may be someone in Australia that may be able to direct me to where I can have these wheels refinished to the correct colour, as all the usual suspects that refinish wheels were unable to assist.
The dealer I bought the car from said that he found someone that could do it, but woh & behold, when the car was delivered, the wheels were just painted a silver finish. So I need to try and get them redone.
In addition, I now also found out that one of the front wheels is out of round (hence the cause of some vibration I was experiencing). Goodness knows where I’ll be able to source another Cremona wheel here though?
Cheers;

A good wheel repair shop should be able to fix that out-of-round wheel so that it runs true.
I recently had my OEM Selena wheels completely refurbished and was very pleased with the results. They were powder coated in a custom mixed slightly dark shade of hypersilver to be as close as possible to the middle spokes that have the original chrome covers.
You might want to do something similar.

They look nicely finished, but it’s a bit of a task trying to find someone who can get that shadow chrome type finish here. This was as close as they got with the first attempt.... plain old silver.

Shadow Chrome is painted by robots in the factory (not Jaguars factory, the wheel suppliers).
Reason it's done by robots is that the top coat is translucent over the black undercoat and varying thickness of top coat changes the colour tone.
So nobody wants to paint them by hand, because a set of four wheels can end up four different shades, darker or lighter...
I want to get the wheels on my Portfolio refurbished and haven't found anyone in Sydney who is willing to do it.

Cambo - this happened to my XKR-S summer wheels on my XKR - costs me 150,- Euro/Wheel to paint them in this shadow optik.
After the first summer I decided to make them new, because they were extreme ugly when the sun was shining direct on the wheel. In the dark they were ok.
I took a normal metallic paint, a Mercedes Benz dark silver nearly without glitter particles.
Much more better and looks in the sun like stainless steel.

Ahhh,
Thanks Cambo, now that I understand the process I can see why there isn’t anyone that I can find here in Melb either, that is willing to do the job.
Guess I’ll have to settle for plain old silver finish for now.

Polished Finish not Shadow Chrome
i just had my Cremona’ refinished. They told me that finish was just a Polished Finish then clear coated.
I just had mine redone. Came out pretty nice. The car I bought a month ago and the wheels were curb rashes pretty good and corrosion / pitting from salt air.
They used a clear powder coat on them.
AWRS out of Baltimore Md. 740 for 4 wheels

Thanks so much for your offer of assistance. I'll check out some other paint shops locally and see what they may be able to do. In the meantime I've sent the wheels off to have them re-spun as the fronts were quite badly out of round and to a lessor extent the rears. Once they are done I'll investigate further. Also need to ditch the tyres the dealer put on it as they are absolutely woeful, so Ill be trying some of the newer Michelin PS4's.
Cheers;
