2008 XKR Portfolio....not so rare?
I can't help noticing that the '08 Portfolio seems quite well represented on this rather sparsely populated 2007+ XKR subforum. That really surprises me considering it was supposedly a limited production model. Maybe it's not such a rare automobile after all?
A cursory forum search reveals:

1. Jaillitt
2. Windigo
3. mja xkr
4. xkjames
5. fstick09

I know that only 3 made it to New Zealand so that makes it pretty rare here
All the literature I can find lists it as a "special edition" available to order rather than a limited edition. I can't find any info on actual build numbers though.

Maybe, given the choice of a fully loaded portfolio, over trying to decide colour, dash, leather, wheels + options was easier when people were buying new.
And they're probably easier to sell used than a standard XKR.

I've seen the number 255 referred to in magazine articles related to U.S. import. I have no idea if that is accurate, though.

No doubt, three makes it a pretty special automobile!

I bought mine from California this past May and had it shipped to Texas. Maybe in sudden influx is due to recent purchases of just coming off lease. I would be curious how many of us recently bought our Portfolios vs bought new.
I have a service appointment this week. I will see if I can get any info on the actual number driving around the US and report back.

Last week I traded my 2000 XKR conv for a 2008 portfolio conv. (Celestial black) at the Scottsdale Jag dealer.
In the last 2-3 weeks of looking just for a blue XKR I found 5 different 2008 portfolios for sale (mostly on autotrader & cars.com) which seemed amazing given its rarity, especially as there were only 1 or 2 blue 'standard' 2008 XKRs for sale in the whole US.
3 of the 5 were in Texas, they were definitely all different cars. One had wood trim, one had aluminum trim (texascarsdirect.com) one was a coupe for private sale (is that one yours, Fstick?)
The Jag dealer here also told me there were only 255 in the states. I've seen that mentioned several other places too. Seems amazing that there are 5 (well, 4 now :-) ) on the net at the same time.
I'd been looking for the right XKR to come along for over a year.
In all that time, any blue XKR would nearly always be in NY, FL or TX. Never any for sale in AZ or even CA. Endless white, silver, black ones though.
Whats up with that?

Rarity Depends On Options
I realize this thread was started for 2008 Portfolios, but I wanted to add my and include 2009 Portfolios.
On 11-06-2010, shortly after I bought my used 2009 XKR Portfolio Cvt, I asked the same question on this forum. See:https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ertible-45154/ Be sure to click on the .pdf file attachment at the bottom of the post for Jaguar USA's reply regarding production numbers.
Over 2 years have passed and there have been no replies to my 2010 thread. During that time, I have seen only one other car advertised for sale that was equipped exactly like mine.
All 2008 Portfolios were Celestial Black and all 2009 Portfolios were Shadow Gray. Various choices/options were available for both model years, so rarity depends on how many cars were identically equipped. From what I've seen in the For Sale ads, most Portfolios don't have the optional Alcon brakes and Adaptive Cruise or the 2-tone Ivory/Slate interior.

>> All 2008 Portfolios were Celestial Black
According to this:
http://www.seriouswheels.com/cars/top-2008-Jaguar-XKR-Portfolio.htm
The UK and Switzerland had a Liquid Silver paint option as well.
I read somewhere but cant remember the exact split between of 2008 portfolio convertibles and coupesthat the US market got. The total was 255 and split in approximately equal numbers. As I remember there were slightly fewer convertibles somewhere like 110-120.
Its kinda nice having something so rare. The dealer did tell me they think there's only one other than mine in AZ. Haven't ever seen it around yet though.

When I was considering whether to go for an '09 Portfolio with Alcons if I could find it, or the 2010, I recall seeing a stat of 500 for '09 Portfolios for N.A., of which about 10% went to Canada. No split between Porfolio verts vs coupes, however more verts than coupes for all XK and XKR's in general. In '09 I believe it was a seperate model as opposed to an option package in '08 if I recall correctly.

2008 Jaguar XKR Base, $49,900 - Cars.com
Maybe 6 months ago I did see a dark blue (not celestial black) colour XKR for sale with at least portfolio spec alcons and cremona wheels, portfolio side vents. Not 100% sure it was a 2008 though. They didn't have any photos showing the interior or door tread so I couldn't see if it really was a Portfolio to that level. I guessed either someone spent a lot of money making it look like a portfolio or it was a one-off special order from Jag maybe. I guess if you went to a Jag dealer and said give me a portfolio XKR but in indigo they wouldn't turn your money away.

From my search time for my 09' Portfolio Coupe', there was one color made for 09'(shadow grey), 20" wheels, 2 interior choices (ivory/slate stitching or charcoal(rare)/cranberry stitching), spun aluminum or dark oak trim, Alcon brakes or adaptive cruise. That's it from all I have read.
So it is a special edition equipment pkg. on an XKR and is listed as such when you look at KBB for trade-in values.
I grabbed this from someone's posting a while back:
Thank you for contacting the Jaguar Customer Relationship Center.
We appreciate your inquiry. For the 2009 model year there were 180 XKR Portfolio coupes and 200 convertibles produced.
