Apologies for the newbie question. I am shopping for a 2009 XK convertible. I note that many sites (as well as a 2009 XK brochure I downloaded) claim that the 5.0 was introduced with the 2009 model. Yet there are 2009's that still have the 4.2. Was the 5.0 introduced part way through the model year?
Thanks so much!
I'll search the forums for advice on a 2009 - but if you have any pointers here for someone about to buy one- I'd love to hear it!
And a big "thank you" to the community for being here and being such a wealth of information.
The US MY 2009 was the last of the 4.2 motors. The 5 liter was introduced at the end of 2009 As a 2010 MY. In the UK the 2009 was the first year for the 5 liter.
The 2010 MY was the first MY for the 5 litre for all countries.
The confusion is that they were actually available from late 2008 and the UK, like New Zealand and many other countries, list cars for sale by registration year, not MY.
Here is an example of one that was for sale in New Zealand a few years ago. It was sold as a 2008 model but note the warranty start date compared to the MY:
Thanks for the clarification and it's also brilliantly confusing from the US perspective, overseas I reckon you had a choice in 2008 to purchase a 4.2 or a 5.0!
