2009 XK Won't Start - Multiple warnings lights
2009 XKR with 37,000 miles
Just got in my XK to repark it. Tried to turn it on. Push start does nothing. Then dash lights up with multiple scrolling messages including "park brake failure" "cat system failure" and "dsc failure.
No response whatsoever when pushing the start button. No trying to turn over, nothing.
Never any issues. My wife did drive it tonight and idled in the driveway for 30 minutes while she finished a phone call.
Any thoughts?

Same happened to me twice. Same exact messages roughly same mileage 36k and 42k and was also idling for about 30+ minutes, on cell phone that was plugged into cig 12v outlet located inside ashtray BUT i know for certain the 2nd time i had my foot depressed on the brake pedal the entire time i sat idling. First time brought to dealership. 4 days & $1500 later they still werent certain as to what exactly went wrong but brake pedal switch replaced and car started, but dealer couldnt get to start every time...not certain what else they did to finally resolve but they still werent certain of root cause and was told not to use cig lighter12v outlet in ashtray, rather use the 12v outlet in glove box?? 2nd time friday noon time in july and was heading to the cape after work for 2 week vacation. GREAT. Luckily ex wife kept me on her AAA roadside and had now been using a local Jag repair shop in Brookline MA. Told me to tow it in within hour and he'd have it fixed for me by 5pm. And it was!! Diagnosis was brake pressure switch needed recalibration (was reading -95000 lbs of pressure being applied when stepping on brake, then a hard restart by disconnecting battery process and voila! It started! And for only $150 this time. The only issue i have had since was while on vacation one night heading back to cottage, driving felt like emergency brake was still engaged and had that plastic/electronic burning smell for the 2 mile ride. Performed another battery hard start and no issues since. (4 months since last incident at this writing). Hope this helps!

Press the Start Button First
He also suggested that I press the START button first and then step on the brake pedal, even though the Owner's Handbook says the opposite. I've been pressing the start button first ever since, as doing so requires only a light tap of the brake pedal.
Try it and see what you think.
