2010-2013 xkr
Hi Everyone, I'm new to the forum. I'm going to be buying an XKR in the next few weeks. From a reliability perspective, I'm wondering if anyone here would avoid the 2010 XKR in particular in favor of a 2011-2013 model (assuming similar service, condition, care, etc.). I usually steer clear of cars that are new models or have significant mechanical upgrades until they've been out for a while and have some history.
I haven't heard/read about any issues that the 2010 has that the subsequent model years also didn't suffer from, but just digging deeper.
I appreciate any input. Thank you!

The 5 liters sometimes have a bad water pump. Mine is fine at 70k miles, not a drip nor rattle. Others are on pump #5.
The 2010s ALL come with Adaptive Cruise, a $4k option.
2012 and newer have the new sleeker front end, but they have Sticky Buttons in the interior. Oh, and also Reverse Cameras OEM.
The 5 liters have all been out for fourteen years, so I'd never call that a 'new model'.
Me, if I'd do it over again, I'd get the 2012 or newer and immediately clean the buttons of the goo.

Shel didn't list a location, so I assumed US, since I live here. In the UK it'd be the 2009, the first year of the five liter engines. I don't know if those ones got ACC or not, just another assumption.
Therefore, the 2011 for your locale would be the updated front end with an OEM rear camera.

I had a 2007 XK 4.2 Coupe and held onto it when the first of the 5.0 versions were introduced, waiting until the final production year to change. The original X150 was just about perfect on introduction and needed very little development. The same could not be said about the 5.0 version. Unfortunately the issues Cee Jay outlined never were entirely resolved before the model was dropped. However, later versions of the 5.0 are (usually) better equiped with options which were expensive for the original buyer but don't now reflect in used prices and therefore offer better value.
As ever with a used Jaguar, provenance is king and a 2010 in great condition with a perfect history is preferable to a later year from a less careful previous owner.

210,000 miles on my 2010 XKR and still driven everyday. The last few months have seen some mileage related issues come up, but the first 130,000 miles (I bought the car with about 70,000 miles on it) were utterly reliable! And the 2010s came with Adaptive Cruise Control, an option rarely seen on later models. As Cee Jay mentioned, water pumps were an issue, and I've had several. The only other real issue were stuck fuel injectors, but that's not limited to the early cars. Finally, I have never had an automatic transmission last 200,000 miles, let alone 100,000 miles without any work done or a rebuild. The only thing I did was have fluid changed 3 times under my ownership, and it still shifts great.

Cameras were only available on the 2012 (US release) and newer cars with the final facelift. If your specific car has a problem, maybe the camera is scratched or something. If you have a newer car and compare the two, the XK screen on which the video is displayed is a woefully inadequate resolution for any "good" image.
