Default 2010 interior passenger side under dash panel coming down on Jaguar XKR

I'm not sure if this is a common issue because I could not find it in the forum, but the under panel (under the dash board) on the passenger side is coming down and will not stay back up. I've tried some Velcro and tucking it in but there's really not much for the material to hang on to and you can see in these pictures that the little tabs are ripped. I'm really surprised that there is no hard vinyl cover type of thing like there is on the passenger side and most other cars. Am I missing something here? Is my car missing something?

Any solutions or suggestions would be appreciated.

Under dash - insulation

Under dash - broken tabs

metal area that it could/should attach securely to.

Looks like the tabs need to be repaired. Assuming it's cardboard, maybe try a few staples to re-attach the ripped parts, then paint over the staples with some epoxy that will adhere to the cardboard.

Or maybe some Gorilla Tape across the whole area where the tabs are and cut out the holes in the tape to match the cardboard cutouts... ???

Just throwing out some hacks...

That might work. I'll check it out. I can't believe they didn't make a hard cover for this area.

I'd glue a stiff metal rod along the whole front edge one side to the other over the ripped tab part. It'd hold better and never rip unless the whole piece rotted away.

There are three clips that push up into the dash. They can be hard to remove so the fabric tears instead of the clip coming out. I just had the same issue while I was doing the slow open glove box repair. By the way, now would be a good time to do the glove box repair since you have to remove that fabric panel to get to some of the screws.
I used about an 1/8" inch drill bit to drill a hole on either side of the opening. Then I tried to use a plastic zip tie. It was too thick and the clips would not go back into the dash. I had a high "E" guitar string laying around so I put it through both holes and twisted the ends together like a bread wrapper. One side of the wire went through the clip. The other side went over the clip. So the clip was held in place. Only two of mine were torn. Anyway, the clips pushed in very easy with the the guitar string. Problem solved.

You can see two of the clips in your third pic. They are rectangles about an inch by half inch. Once you get them out it should be pretty obvious.

Both great ideas Cee Jay and Craniac. Once I strengthen the edge, I can either tie it or glue it back as a unit and use the clips as anchor points.

A previous owner tried to fix mine with duct tape, left a sticky residue, so I just bought a new one, not that expensive.

The tabs on mine were beginning to rip but had not completely failed. I lapped a piece of duct tape over each and cut out the excess tape in the holes to allow the clips to be inserted. It has worked well so far. As Craniac pointed out, you cannot put anything of any thickness between the inside of the piece and the rail under the dash to which the piece attaches.

OK, I'll take a closer look. Thanks.

Agree with KJ, mine was missing completely, I assume some repair required access and never put back.

I think £80/$100 from dealer but managed to get a new one of fleabay for £30 delivered, it came with all of the fixings, will try and dig out the part number, although appreciate it may be different for LHD cars.

I hope the mods won't mind a link to the predominantly UK forum which lists the part numbers?

Thanks Marky. I haven't seen that part number here. It may be for the right hand drive, but it is definitely the same basic thing.

The bare bulb is also a bit of a head scratcher.
