Oops! Pulling into a friend's driveway my XKR front lip encountered a grassy hummock. This is the result. Any UK members know the best way to get this part replaced?
God Morning 'Hilly' and welcome to the forum. I am in the process of repairing/painting my front spoiler bibs (like yours, mine were also damaged, albeit not so badly). The side piece that you require is part number C2P20415XXX (will be supplied in primer - hence the XXX code). They are still available from Jaguar at £138.05 inclusive and are held in place by two bolts and two screws. The ones fitted to post 2012 cars have a different part number. I would advise that when you replace the bib you use stainless steel bolts/screws (be cautious about using stainless ones on the plastic undertrays below the engine/gearbox however, as if they screw into aluminium they can cause a galvanic reaction (type of corrosion). Looking at your damage and the price of a new part I wouldn't bother repairing (unless you do it yourself). Good luck (my 2010 XKR is also Salsa Red, which it looks like yours also is ?)
I have done this 4 times and keep a spare in my tool shed. Chris at Mina Galleries used to make these, and will still make upon request. Since his shop is so close to my home, I just pick them up at his shop once they are ready. I know he shipped one to Poland for a forum member, so I don't think it should be an issue. If I can help in any way. Just let me know.
Yes, Chris is a stand-up guy and is very trustworthy and helpful. Sometimes he gets overwhelmed and things take longer to get, but he's a small operation so that's expected sometimes.
Thanks all for your helpful comments. I have visited a local body shop who says he will be 'making calls' to Jaguar for the side part. Jag can charge what they like for these bits of trim, and I'm sure they will. I can't really wait for a 3rd party body kit maker to produce this piece for me. However I have set aside several grand for maintenance on this car as I foresaw it would need some and I knew it wouldn't be cheap, so I'll roll the cost into that slush fund (and avoid even the tiniest grassy knoll in future).
FYI I bought it two weeks ago and took it straight to my local Jag specialist. Other work it is now booked in for includes:
New rear shocks
New front lower arms
New rear discs and pads (very lipped and pads worn 80%
New inner auxiliary belt
New tyres all round and alignment
Fortunately I have the cash for all that. As I become a more experienced XKR owner I'll be finding out about cheaper ways to maintain it.
Oh, and I gave it a good wash and polish yesterday
Lovely looking car - some cars suit bright red more than others. I think the XK (X150) is one such (mind you I am biased). Salsa red was replaced in 2011 with Italian Racing Red, which is a darker shade.Salsa was only available on the XKR models Mine also has the black pack and speed pack (black Kalimnos wheels and side skirts etc, plus limit increased to 178 mph). The black wheels REALLY compliment the colour. Good luck and keep us all posted with your progress.
If you can even get them. I was able to get rears, but when I tried to get the front Bilsteins last winter, they were on backorder for 6 months before I finally cancelled. I'll milk the life out of these old ones a bit longer.
