Default 2010 XKR - Grinding Noise

Hello All: I'm the proud owner of a 2010 XKR for ~ 2 years now and love it. I've been driving it a bit more of late as I am in the process of getting a new daily driver and notice a grinding noise (I believe in the rear) when I begin from a stop. I initially only heard it when making a left turn from a hard stop, but now I hear it more frequently and I have felt a slight hesitation from a hard stop. Any ideas? I live in New Jersey so I thought perhaps it was due to the car being cold, but I don't think that is the case. Appreciate the help and guidance! Thanks.

Differentials are quite troublesome on these cars, I would drain the fluid and check it for metal fragments. If it is metal free, replacing the oil fluid with Ravenol with the friction modifier might help but I fear if it is making noises, it might be time for a new diff.

I fear Mufc is right but worth doing some further investigation before draining your bank account!

Noises are extremely difficult to pinpoint from the driver's seat and not much easier for a passenger who doesn't have to concentrate on the driving. Worth getting the vehicle on a lift, spinning the wheels and checking the bearings to eliminate brake or suspension as possible sources.

Super Easy fix.
Buy 2 bottles of this. https://www.ravenolamerica.com/gear-...g-ravenol-mdl/
Have an independent mechanic change the fluid out for you. You can do it yourself too.

Very common problem across multiple brand. I was going to post this same fluid from Amazon, unfortunately they are sold out, at Amazon you would have seen many reviews with verbatim what you wrote as your problem.

Dont take this to a place looking to make their boat payments, they will take a $100 job and make it $2500.

This is the other tool you need
Amazon Amazon
note the first review.

Fellow 2010'er here. I never heard a grinding, but that shudder/vibration from the rear when making a left turn from a full stop --and eventually a right turn, and eventually a turn from any speed below 10MPH-- was the symptom of a problem that led to my E-differential being replaced. I also eventually got the yellow-triangle "ELECTRONIC DIFFERENTIAL SYSTEM FAULT warning light, which I assume you don't have yet. I was told that since 2010 was the first year for the E-Diff on our cars, this is an issue.
i'd DEFINITELY follow Q&C's suggestion, above, as soon as possible. Get some more life out of that diff.

No one seems to have stated the miles covered on their cars, mine had 57k when I decided to have the diff fluid changed in Dec 19

This was a teaspoon tipped on clean kitchen paper, you can see the carbon deposits in the centre...which can't be good!

Not had the chance to send sample away for analysis but, although I didn't have any grinding noises, my car seems to drive better and I've not lost the back end as I've done previously

Exact same symptoms...hoping it's not an expensive fix. Thanks very much for the detail, really appreciate it.
