2010 XKR oil change?

2010 XKR oil change?
So after reading many different posts on this topic, I can't come to a conclusion if Jaguar is now requiring a different oil other than the original Castrol SLX Professioal.
There seems to be quite the debate on which is the correct oil to use for the 2010 5.0 XKR.
Does anyone know the correct oil that should be used?

The correct oil is the one listed in the owners manual, unless someone can produce a Jaguar issued bulletin indicating that there is a new requirement. I've never seen such a thing despite several requests. Oil manufacturer's bulletins don't count.
The fact that a new oil is introduced does not mean that all vehicles must use it and not the previous type.

Why don't you just call the dealer and ask them the details as you are thinking of an oil change? As part of the conversation ask them what they are using, it is a fair question even if you don't choose them.
I just had my oil changed by Crowne Jaguar in St. Pete back in March. The oil listed on my receipt says 5w20 Edge Pro OE. I don't know what is in my manual and if this is a match and don't care to compare, I can just tell you what they used.

Doing so will usually just muddy the waters. Dealers use the 'latest and greatest' oil- as long as it's backwards compatible with the vehicle they are servicing. That oil may not have existed when the vehicle was built.

Use the Jaguar 0-20w. For a multitude of reasons. The one that is the most important to you is that its going to ensure you are not getting old stock. 0-20 is being used across the board on all current cars/suvs that have our engine, thus readily stocked.

The reason its not in this case, is that while a 2010 is no longer under manufacturers obligation to update and nor do they have the ability to update your owners manual. However, fortunately this exact engine lives on in other cars where oil specs and the owners manual have been updated. There is even a TSB.
P.s. I thanked your post because you make another great point inadvertently- dealers will not always tell you whats right, just what's right for them.

More importantly the logic is right in front of us.
in 2010 this was a brand new engine to JLR
Since then they have learned a few things.
For the same car and engine Jaguar fills it with 0-20w, and on all current trucks with same engine.
Its the only fact you need to know.
Its to address cam phaser actuator.

Just had mine done at my dealer last month. They use 5W-30 out of their drum. Castrol . Maybe they will change when their drum runs out but so far that's what they are using.

A little off-topic but I notice you're in New York - are you anywhere near NYC? I'm in the city with my XKR for the summer and am in need of a good shop. Dealership is fine. The closer to the city, the better, and near a subway or train better still.
Thanks...

Not close I'm about 70 miles up the hudson river in Hyde Park NY. My dealer is 75 miles north in Albany. I believe there is a dealer in Yonkers or White Plains.

Mobil 1 ESP x2 0W-20 has the following OEM approvals:
Jaguar Land Rover STJLR.51.5122
Mobil 1 ESP x2 0W-20 can only be used in the vehicles for which it is approved. It is not backward compatible with older vehicle engines.

Where are members finding their oil for the 5.0 liter engines? I've been looking all over for a source. Except for an occasional single quart here and there, the best package deal I could find was on Ebay.
12 Quarts Castrol Edge Professional E 0W-20 Jaguar Land Rover FST Synthetic Oil
Item price $112.40 plus shipping totaled $146.
That's about double what I'd expect to pay for that quantity of oil.

To simplify: there are 2 types of synthetic oils. Group 4 and Group 5
Group 5 is about $10 a quart regardless of manufacturer.
Some manufacturers like Red Line, Amsoil, Royal Purple, only use Group5.
Our oil is Group5
Cheap because unlike other oils selling for the same price, this was painstakingly made and approved for your car. And you only need it once a year.
So is an IQ test: spend hundred bucks to maintain your Hundred Thousand dollar car or roll the dice.
Drive to Orlando or Boca and pick it up at a dealership, about $10 a quart. Dont tell me you never get out of Ormond for an entire year. I lived there 25 years ago, was ready to slit my wrist.
