Last winter, when I was looking for a car, I read "a LOT" of Carfaxs. I was aware of the pump issue from reading here.

My rather nonscientific research showed that a "fair number" of cars were getting new pumps under warranty; but I did not keep a record of the numbers. Maybe 15-20%. These were most commonly replaced when the car had 40k+ miles.

I also looked at high mileage cars with Carfax reports just to see their service history. I realize that this information is a crap shoot at best, as work may have been done by an independent or simply not reported to Carfax. I saw cars getting pumps at 70k+ miles in some cases.

I never say any history of multiple pump failures like encountered here, but maybe those don't get reported.

And you should be.

Have you considered the "Lemon Law" approach with JLRNA?

Loth,
You should not be upset. Here is the 2 things that it could be.

Operator error, the same shop using repeating the same installation error. You know how to remedy this. It does take a special shop that thinks outside the box to solve a reoccurring problem. I had an engineering flaw in mine and now it has a great sticker in the engine compartment that says "Modifications authorized by Jaguar"

It can also be aftermarket parts. Which have a very low threshold of accuracy. Especially water pumps. We did some job shop work (side jobs) and received thousands of water pumps to re-machine. Manufacturer has to guarantee a pump for 5 years and cost them thousands if they are wrong, a aftermarket company only has to guarantee them for a year and only has to refund the part of the cost if they are wrong- a perverse incentive to cut corners.

Make sure your shop used OEM pump. Demand to see your old. Demand to know what actually failed, was it the seal on the pump or the mounting of the pump.

its the black xkr you bought on that damn site. you haven't saved anything that day. they sucks.
Its time for a dealer switch, warranty will be fine no? I have never liked them. since the xkrs 's problem when new.

You bought the xkr 2012 to save the xkrs which you had a problem first too, once your xkrs problem was solved you went with this xkr, which give you a lot of trouble, so your experience has been a bit chaotic, sorry i do not want humiliate i want emphasize the fact you got that one to save another one who might be loosing a ton a value or who maybe be hard having a high interest credit, if the xkrs does not take value, you have not used it, but you used one more fragile again, at the end you could have a new bentley paid cash or an aston that could be more economic and more reliable. this dealer has not saved you any dramas, i will think of him to sell "peugeot".
men, you try to save a xkrs by using a dumb xkr, but at the end the xkrs may become fragile too not using it enough, i see it like this, so down on the road, you loose on both.
I am glad i am out, my problems was with dealer 's caracter and what they allowed to happenned, these guys at jaguar have their *** between 2 chairs!

Very true indeed!@! My water pump part number is C2Z31587. Is that the most UTD pump out there?

the loyalty will have been at least that the xkrs how yours is, takes a lot of value, and it may not happenned and i beleive we can hurt a car more by not using it than abusing it. so you ve been jeopardising the xkrs health fighting with this dumb xkr, but we all loose a lot of money on cars,
I saw a person buying a car with distances like this 2012 and it was less good than the one he just sold, so he had a switch done with more money involved and find himself with a les good car, probably abused, cause he probably put too much trust or money or passion with this dealership.

I hope you get everything back cause you ve been too good.

Loth,

As far as I know, you have the latest version. Here's the history, from my thread on the XJ Forum: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-132537/page4/ - post #61:

Water Pump Part Number Summary I thought it would be helpful to list the water pump part numbers in chronological order, with the newest version last.

C2Z29189 - Installed in my 2013 XJ on 12/4/2014 (so far, so good but I keep my eye on my OBDII/Torque temperature gauge)

C2Z31146 - Installed in johndalheimer's 2011 XJ on 8/11/2015 (embossed with Land Rover logo)

C2Z31587 - Installed in polyesterpig's 2011 XJ on 11/18/2015

If your water pump fails, make sure your dealer installs the latest version.

Stuart

question - Jaguar is not the one actually making these water pumps so will they always change their part numbers when sourced from another mfg or when there is slight changes in design? It would makes sense but is that always the case? As a previous poster said it would be very interesting to watch the defective pump get swapped out to validate where the actual defect is - seal, front bearing, small defect in casting, bad installation, etc

Lother - as said early on, I empathize with you through this trying ordeal and wish you nothing but great resolve. You've shown FAR more patience on this than I ever would have fingers are crossed that this one is final and lasting

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but curious if you know the modification number on your sticker? My previously-loved XKR has one of these neat stickers as well but I haven't been able to determine what the modification was. The modification number on mine appears to be "J038." I know it has had it's water pump replaced under warranty per the service records so likely related to this.

That is for a recall to have a software update due to am emissions issue:

Situation: An issue has been identified on a number of 2010-2012 model year XF (X250) and XJ (X351) vehicles, and
2010-2014 model year XK (X150) vehicles fitted with the 5.0L V8 engine (naturally aspirated and supercharged) within
the listed VIN ranges. The condition may cause the engine Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) to illuminate with Diagnostic
Trouble Code (DTC) P0316 in addition to one or more of the P0301-P0308 codes stored in the Engine Control Module
(ECM). This condition will have no effect on the vehicle’s performance, but may reduce the vehicle’s ability to control
tailpipe emissions.
