The title says it all. I am trying to find ANY info about actually removing the engine. It doesn't look to be rocket science, but I would rather not go in blind.

Brace engine from top , subframe removal , get all torque bolts out whilst on lift , drop as a unit that is gearbox and transmission and split on the deck

so...no pulling just the engine from the top? i have a lift, so I certainly can lift the car away from the subframe.
Does the subframe include suspension control arms as well?

Undo you link rods , lower control arms , banana arm from stub axles then disconnect steering knuckle from underneath, you'll be able drop subframe with suspension components also don't forget to tie steering wheel in place within cabin to prevent any chance of damage to the clock spring

I have always removed from the top. Disconnect and separate the trans and support on some wood and a jack
Disconnect everything, A/C lines are tricky as there is little room.
I lift from the side and don't even remove the bonnet.

Helps to have two people coming out and going back in to meet up with the trans.

Hood/bonnet remains in place? Are we still talking about an X150 Jaguar XK/R? 2007-15?

Yes, I just tilt it as far forward as possible, Lift engine and it comes out over the wheel arch.

I hate removing the bonnet.

How difficult is it to get to the engine to transmission bolts? Especially at the top of the transmission. There are some strut braces on the left and right side of the engine. Do those need to be removed as well?

Reach and remove most of the bolts from underneath, get the remaining 4 or 5 from the top.

Yes, remove the bracing struts.for more access.

Wow. I'm impressed. But I've learned that dropping suspensions, front or rear as appropriate, can be a great time saver in the long run.
Thank you for sharing your experience.

Thanks all for your comments / suggestions. My hope is to get someone to do this instead of me, but that is not looking likely as all the shops say they have never done one or the "jag" shops want and arm and a leg and they wont let me source the new engine...
I have a 4 post lift which will probably get in the way if I drop the suspension components with the engine / tranny being dropped. It would seem to me to be much easier ot lift it...
I will certainly give updates as they become available

This just in..
For those who may be facing the same issue as me...The engine swap is complete and successful. It took me about 40 hours by myself (except for the actual remove and install with the engoin hoist)
It comes out from the top per the manual. I left the ac in the engine compartment. delaing with the power steering high pressure hose was frustrating. the 4 of the 5 connectors that were "attached" to the transmission were the O2 sensor connections. The were difficult to get to...
I won't bore you all with the details (unless someone asks) but suffice it to say, it really wasn't all that bad.
Now..If I could only figure out why my power steering pump is making so much noise. I have flushed and filled, and ran vacumm on the reservoir. Other than the noise, it functions properly.

I went the other way dropped as a unit split it on the bench , all hoses etc were disconnected once I had it out for ease of accessibility , started Tuesday morning finished Thursday afternoon with new chains fitted whilst it was out .

There's no incorrect way it's the method you feel comfortable taking .

Snapped con-rod bank 8

New Power train ready for vehicle to be brought down onto it

Kind of difficult to go out the bottom without a car lift tho.

Dropping the engine out the bottom seems sooooo much easier, if the lift is available. Kind of the dream way to work on an engine.
