Default 2013 XKR cost of ownership

According to Motor Trend, the five year cost of ownership for a 2013 XKR includes $7,381 in maintenance and $5,765 in repairs. That's $2,629 a year! Maybe it's me but that sounds excessive. I'd like to hear from XKR owners. What are you paying annually for maintenance and repairs?

I got my 2012 XKR convert 3 years ago. I have put 4 tires on for $800 , a 4 wheel alignment for $150 and 2 oil changes for $320. Total of 1270 for 3 years gives me around $420 per year. By the way 2 of the tires were due to a side wall flat which I replaced both rears. I followed the following year with replacing matching fronts. Also this has been done in 14,000 miles.

LOL! According to Motor Trend, you should have spend another $6,200.

I think Motortrend might be factoring in the cost of the passenger?

If you did the scheduled maintenance and any non warranty repair at the dealer maybe half that.

Are they factoring in depreciation? Nevermind, then it would be worse!

"Repairs"????
What does "Repairs" mean?
Seriously.
Maintenance I can understand, but to actually have something break? I don't understand that concept. Not on my XKR.
Nothing has broken. Not in six-plus years.

Now, tires are an expense. Oil is cheap, as are other fluids.
A new tranny pan with filter and fluid at 60k costs a hundred or so if you do it yourself, but even at a shop it'd be nominal.

Estimates sound about right to me. These aren't high production cars so parts are pricey but not any different than MB imo. Sorry I have no experience comparing to other GT's or the near luxury cars like BMW, Lexus etc.

I budget $1500/ year for both but am DIY. I have an 07 though. To date I'm a bit under budget, but I include buying the software and I had to have the rear bumper cover resprayed upon arrival. Neither of those is a common expense. Those combined were still under $1500.

Wear items and "break - fix" are different IMO. Scheduled items like brakes, tires, annuals, are constant on any car.

Ah, baloney. Fuel will always be used, State fees, insurance and all that other truck will be the same or close to it whatever the vehicle.
Maintenance costs will be somewhat different just 'cuz, but expected.
Going by this list, you'd have to include:
Parking Lot Fees
$900
Cost of garage for house
$35,000
Driveway paving
$22,000
House to attach to garage
$792,000
Wiper Blades (yeah, part of maintenance, but proving my point)
$12
Initial Purchase Price
$116,200

Therefore, cost of ownership is nearly one million.

Excellent point and the price isn't much different across other brands.

Prior to my 2010 XKR,. I was the proud owner of a 2004 911 S and a 2005 Maserati Coupe. The XKR is nickles and dimes compared to the aforementioned machines.

What's that saying... figures don't lie but liars figure.

Those figures aren't necessarily lies but they're not useful either.

Perhaps they are factoring in the numerous speeding fines !

Working on numerous manufacturers I have first hand knowledge of how reliable the jaguar unit is and apart from its extremely good looks this was one of the determining factors of actually purchasing my vehicle

Their numbers are crazy. I have a 2013 XJ that I bought new with 55,000 miles on it. I have done four oil changes on it (myself) @ ~$60 each, changed air filters, $40, cabin filter $20, trans and brake flush $400. I am still on the original tires but they will need replacement soon.

Default Add info

My recently purchased 2012 XK with 26,000 miles on it shows oil and filter changes, a brake fluid flush, a new battery ($280), and four new tires ($1000) in the service history.

More than my Xterra, but not extreme.

Agree also with Dave's post, the overall cost of maintenance items is an incremental increase over lower end cars. Tires, oil, brakes, they always cost more in higher performance cars, compare it to a regular car like his Xterra and it seems high. Compare it other high performance vehicles, even domestic, and it isn't that different.

Those repair numbers in the original post seem way off from the norm. I would put that into a worse case scenario.
