Default 2013 XKR Suspension Repair / Upgrade

Hi fellow cat lovers

I have had a creaking noise from my rear suspension since I bought the car early this year, which I had hoped would be solved by the troubleshooting and tech bulletins in this thread:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...solved-233405/

Unfortunately following the tech bulleting suggestion to unplug the CATS connections to the rear shocks stopped 90%+ of the noise, which I've confirmed with a mechanic pretty much means the shocks are the culprit.

I've confirmed the part number with the JLR parts counter here based on my VIN to be C2P22813 (contradicts what Rimmer have for 5.0SC cars). So besides the huge cost, this is a straight forward purchase to have fitted.

I've found this listing on ebay UK but cannot reference any of the codes in the pictures to Bilstein or Jaguar codes to see whether this would be a straight forward upgrade or whether they're potentially incompatible (picture attached as well).
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jaguar-XK...-/254180454884

Could anyone cast some light on the ebay set above and whether they will fit? Happy to PM my VIN if that helps. ...or if this may just introduce other issues from replacing like for like?

Thanks for any help anyone is able to provide.

Yes, you can use them, bolt straight in.

I bought a set from that exact seller for a customer's 2012 XKR, he's very happy with it.

That's awesome info @Cambo , thanks heaps for that! Shame you're not in Brissie - I'd be straight around for fitting as well

Just to close this one out, I purchased a set as pictured above, which came fairly quickly but painfully with UPS. They were pretty scratched from warehousing, not shipping but have resolved the squeaks / creaks from the back suspension.

Double thanks to @Cambo for the suggestion to plug in the Active Damping before fitting to check they weren't defective prior to getting them installed

A little thread revival here...

@Cambo and @jon-izumi just wondering if either of you had any further feedback on the dampers linked above on your customers car (cambo) and your personal car Jon?

Hi Russ9898,

I no longer have my XKR, but maybe I can put it this way - I wasn't sure whether to buy that last set from the guy on ebay, just in case I bought another XKR in the future.

I wouldn't down spec to XK level shocks personally (answering your query on another post, as I found the originals and yellow ones both had enough comfort.

Hope you're enjoying the car Incidentally, what is the reason for replacing the suspension - creaking / leaking?

Cheers,
Jon

hi jon-izumi,

reading through the thread, it looks like that the replacement shock absorbers went well and there is a difference overall with the xkrs upgrade.

my car at the moment has very light misting of oil on on both front absorbers and 1 rear absorber, mechanic advises to replace with new set of absorbers with coils.

would you say to go ahead with the upgrade, i.e. pros and cons if any.

any help would be really appreciated.

thanks

hi jon,

my shock absorbers are leaking and a recent call with JLR have said that the shock absorbers alone with no springs cost £3,500+ for XKR-S set and £2,000 for XKR with no springs.

so i just wanted to check that if i do buy this set that it will improve my overall performance of ride quality and road grip at high speeds.

thanks

I think you shouldn’t be weeping oil. The seal may be on its way out. Surprised you don’t feel the lack of dampening while driving.
