I’m taking contingent delivery of a 2014 XK convertible tomorrow, and bringing it to an independent mechanic Thursday morning for an inspection. The mechanic is reviewed favorably, but frankly, at this point I don’t know yet about his Jaguar bona fides.
Any suggestions about specific components I should be sure to have checked out?
Thanks.

Bottom line: Every used car is a gamble, and the odds get worse as the cars get older and the mileage increases. Your 2014 XK is over 8 years old and, even if it's low mileage and garaged, time takes its toll on rubber parts.
A Jaguar X150 really isn't very different from other used cars of the same age and mileage. The biggest factor, IMHO, is the care and maintenance by previous owners. Because anything can happen, it's a good idea to pay a Jaguar dealer to do a Pre Purchase Inspection to the Jaguar Certified Pre-Owned Checklist standards so you'll know what needs to be fixed and the cost. Here's that checklist:
Besides the universal things a competent specialist should evaluate, there's a few unique to the JLR range which are frequently discussed in the forum. Would be preferred to find one with low miles or a detailed service history. I neglected example with little history's less desirable than one which was cared for regularly. Exterior and interior condition can also be an indication of the care it received over the course of its life. But as Stuart said, as any modern car ages, it's not a question of if, but when.
The 5.0 XK is a fairly robust girl. Water pump is a high failure point regardless of miles. Easy to replace and $150 in parts for aftermarket (dont buy the jaguar three piece unit). Sticky buttons are easily fixed for free and some elbow grease. Tend to eat batteries if not double locked or on a Ctek....Wife headliner just died on her 2013. Other than that, its a car so have everything checked accordingly.
