Thanks! That is sort of what I thought would be the reason for it not being possible. It's a shame, though. I wish the auto manufactures would standardize on a set of standards so that obsolete or legacy systems could be updated or replaced like this.

Oh well...just another thing to log in the "to do" list when I'm king for a day.

The manufacturers don't want you to update legacy systems. They want you to buy a new car. With your 2018 F Type you will get the 2016 or maybe even 2017 maps that you want.

(Or you can forget about the lousy integrated GPS and use Google maps on your phone. They are constantly updated, free, and will work in the Model T.)

I wont argue about our nav... it bites... But I normally use it just to help estimate arrival times, or knowing not to make an idiot out of myself for passing a line of cars knowing my turn is only 1.5 miles ahead.

I've tried to go back and find an old thread on the Audi forums, as I swear someone had posted how to image an older dvd, and just update the map files while keeping the last bootloader. Can't find it yet, but if my 2010 is on its last release ever, I'll keep digging.

It seems most of the new cars have solved the problem. I bought a new chevy truck last year . A base work truck but they have all gone to an infotainment screen for audio and other stuff. No nav or satellite. Interesting enough it has Android audio and apple carplay or whatever they call it. So I loaded the android app on my phone and when I plug it into the car port up comes the nav map . It had a microphone feature where I tell it my destination and it maps it out using google maps. No need anymore for an in car installed nav system. I do use the jag system while cruising just to see different local roads. I also use it on long trips just to track distance and time for the trip.

Well, huh. When my wife bought her 2015 Lexus there was no such thing, so I guess the integrated Android/Info System in cars is later than 2015. Great idea, that.

I really wanted to like Apple Car Play, to the point I had a Kenwood set integrated into my Lotus. The reality of it is...less than overwhelming. I think part of it is that the integrator failed to make sure that it could do navigation separately from Car Play. But that aside, I found the lack of flexibility (especially in this day and age given Apple's capabilities) to be a strike against it. Then again, the whole audio system upgrade was a colossal clusterf*ck from the get go and I'm glad the integrator three long states away from me because I would never, ever refer someone to them.

Right off the bat, anything 'apple' is bound to be a clusterkcuf anyway. Seriously. I'm not hating on apple, just stating a fact.
Does anyone out there have first-hand experience with the Android Audio part of this system? Maybe I'll go test drive that AMG GT I've been wondering about...

I use android auto when I'm in my chevy truck. You need to plug the phone in to the USB port for it to work. It uses google maps that is in the android auto app. It also uses your phone book and has all of your contacts available. I don't see anything that would let you play from your phone song list as I don't have /need to do this. It's pretty slick and the nav is on the car infotainment screen and it uses voice command through the car system. It does use phone data.

The key is to find the system that compliments how you operate and is compatible with your hardware. I will never own an Android product or force myself to rely on Google services for anything I do; I have trust issues with them. I'm also heavily invested into the Apple ecosystem and iOS and MacOS products work fine for me and improve my productivity...so for me, it works.

What I don't like about the phone driven systems is that they tend to delete the built in functions that the phone would provide, such as navigation. IIRC, Kenwood (who manufactured the head unit that's in my Lotus now) offers a nav module for it, but that's nickle and diming the consumer.

I'm considering just getting an iPad and mounting it on the dash and using that.

Newly Updated disk! Has the year "2017" printed on it!
Seriously though, I wouldn't think it'd be all that difficult to update a map, even a 0.2 percent change to actual physical roads would be huge. So, a disk update of say 0.1 percent SHOULD be easy-peasey (and I don't squeeze lemons).

Something sound funny here. I thought the last XK update was for MY 2012 which included the 13-15 MY. Also looking at the add it says XF to 2011 and XK 2006 on. So my question is did they change the infotainment system in the 2012 XF and is this just a copy of the 2012 XK disk.

I have an '08 XK with the original nav program. What is the latest update that I can install? Lots of road changes in nearly 10 years.

Nope. iamddo lives in Dallas Texas. Unless he plans to ship his car AND himself to Europe very, very soon, Post 30 won't help him a bit.
All of Europe is about the same size as the US, but Europe has over twice the population of the US. 4.2 million road-miles in USA, 6.5 million road-miles in Europe. So..... why isn't there an update for the USA?

Ooops!
Maybe send them two an email and ask if it's possible for them to make one? :-)
