2018 Aston Martin Vantage - they ruined it

I saw a different video review yesterday of this car, and the first thing that stuck out to me was how this Aston was now closer to my XKR than ever before. Those who know where to look will know exactly what I am on about.
p.s. Here is a more tolerable video

They are
What you are seeing is a total shift of power. Mainstream magazines (king-makers) have historically held a gun to our heads. Demanding budget-busting ad commitments, booth babes, $5000 wine (no joke) and crisco to make it all go smoothly. OR our newborn will die on the vine and no one will hear about it. Companies like AM did not even stand a chance. Consider the latest review by Time magazine that gave the Apple 10 phone the 2nd most important product made this year. When LG V30 is better.
But nowadays, any punk with camera and a YouTube channel can get more grassroots eyeballs than these wallet grabbing dinosaurs. So we figured a new way to level the playing field in our favor and get revenge. We invest in the theatrics and invite everyone, no more exclusive behind the scenes with hopes of getting on the top 10 list of mercy.
The proof is right in front of your eyes, what review are we reading, its not the one from Road and Track. Its someone you have never heard of before and he has greater reach, more easily pleased and motivated. He just needs a stage and lighting. And yes we can dangle him for a review or factory tour, whereas, the big media would demand we send the factory to them- before they lifted a finger.

Your comments brought back High School memories and gave me a big laugh. I know it was cruel, but one of the guys (it might have been Al Franken) gave one of the girls a nickname. He called her Crisco ... because she was fat in the can!

I agree with Q&C, traditional media shat the bed. They got too greedy - printed media pages is now entirely full-page ads. Cable media is up to 20 minutes an hour of commercials. People don't like that and are moving away.
So how do you target affluent young people that watch Netflix, block all internet ads, and don't buy printed magazines? Online reviewers. However, I will only watch Youtube for as long as they remain mostly ad free. I can tolerate 3 seconds, but I will navigate away if unskippable ad shows up.

Everyone is being a little too critical without even seeing the car in person. The DB11 is not so impressive on the monitor, but in the flesh is pretty wow. Open the door, waft of leather and the impressive stitching and design just overwhelm. When something is innovative, it can take some time for the masses to catch up to the innovators.
If you follow AM closely, this new Vantage is synergy of all their recent designs from the recent Zagato, racing models (including that racing Rapide), DB11 and "DB10". It's unmistakable as an Aston.
I wish AM could do more to make the engine their own. It's not the vision of beauty the NA V8 and V12 were. I don't believe there is even an enamel winged plaque on the engine :-(

Some of us may or may not like the Vantage, but what counts for Aston Martin is what the younger generation of buyers want. They certainly don't want something that looks 'traditional' and resembling a car from previous eras they associate with 'old'.
When Aston Martin of Newport Beach receive one, I would like to see it myself, not on a video or from stills, then I'll see if I like it or not.
I can remember when Rolls-Royce launched the Silver Shadow in the late 1960s and quite a few people at that time lamented that it didn't look like a Roller at all. It broke the mold of the upright, formal Rolls-Royce styling and younger people of affluence stepped up and bought them. Does the Silver Shadow still appeal to young people today? Do they fancy a car that looks like something their father or grandfather would own? I don't think so.
Interestingly, when asked about why the Silver Shadow styling looked 'pedestrian', their response was: 'if you like it the moment you see it, it's already dated.'

The new 2018 Aston Martin is a mess.
The headlights appear to have been lifted from a 2008 Miata, the front grill looks like Lexus got a hold of it and made it ugly, the rear was swiped from the F-Type (the best part) and steering wheel is more confused than Bruce Jenner: Am I round or square? The interior is a let down too. Aston...if you are listening...scrap this car and stick to your old formula.

Dont want to swim against the tide but I dont mind it, and I think it makes the current series look pretty dated.
Yes the grille isnt very nice but it reminds me a little of the old zagato (DB7?) and really, 90% of the pictures and video are taken from knee hight or below - from usual height it wouldnt be as prominent.
And yes the interior is a bit adventurous but this is a press car and they tend to be out there, Most builds will be more tasteful and the Aston interiors were dreadfully dated.
So then I can live with the front and I think the interior will be nice when it isnt done in drug dealer inspired tones. The rest of it is just amazing, to me.
