Default 255/285mm tyres on 19" rims?

Hi,

Has anyone tried to put wider tyres on 19" rims?
I've got Caravela rims, wondered if it would help the traction if I got 285mm tyres at the rear and 255mm at the front.

Not really sure what size are rear rims:
- 9J according to this site https://sizemywheels.com/pcd/jaguar/xk/50i-x150
- 10.5J according to other one https://tire-size.net/size/jaguar/xk/

Default Curious about it too

Share the same consideration and am curious about experience of others. I have the original Pirelli’s (J) for Jaguar on the 19” as well with the 245 275 sizes and agree that they seem slim on the rims. And therefore the rims seem more vulnerable also. Adding ten millimeter is only five on each side. I was also considering asking around but have not got to it yet.
especially next time I get new summer rubber I will try this. I got Caravella’s with winter rubber that I will keep in the smaller standard size (aqua planning Risk) but on the summer wheels Tamana I would consider the larger tyre size 255/285

You mean you've got original 245/275 (and not 285)? Or you already have 285 on Caravelas?

Yesterday I measured the rear rims in "naive" way (ie just put the measure tape through the rim) and from one edge to the other it's roughly 27cm => ~10.6" which would lead me to believe that they are in fact 10.5J
10.5J allows for tyre sizes 265-295mm so there would be no doubt there. https://www.tyres-pneus-online.co.uk...ce-advice.html

However it would be great if someone knew the definite size of the front/rear 19" Caravelas rims on XK

Default Apologies was typo. Have 245/275 currently

Apologies was a typo (corrected). I have the standard tyre size on two sets of rims. Caravella for the winter tyres 245/275 (Michelin) and the Tamana with the Pirelli summer tyres. 245/275

If the standard tyre width is 275 feel free to try 285 or even 295, you can go wider or narrower by 20mm without too much drama. It might make a noticeable change but, before you tell all your mates how much difference 10mm makes, keep in mind that most of any perceived improvement in traction is likely to be attributable to going from old tyres to new tyres 😂

I’m in partial agreement with @dangoesfast . But 20mm is a large upsize from spec on that rim width for me.
I have oversized only on the rears of my summer tires (on 20s). And lowered the profile.
My All Seasons and my winters are on 19s. The all seasons are as spec’d. The winters, slightly undersized but with the higher profile.
Its interesting that the measure of the ratio of performance/comfort/looks seems to meander. And as stated above, its really about having the right tires, that are not aged. And without a doubt, the tires available today are significantly better than those even from just 5 years ago.

The only 10.5" rear rim that comes to mind from the 4.2 era would have to be the vortex wheel from the xkr-s , even the Senta (xkr) is a 9.5" and Selena (portfolio) also 9.5"
