Which 4.2L Motor Oil Do You Use?
#21
Sorry, Q&C, that's not me. I don't want anything "cheaper than the Dollar store brand." That's buying junk that doesn't last and actually costs more because you have to buy it again. I just want to know that if I spend my hard-earned money on something it's going to work as expected. That's why I won't make political contributions to Democrats.

So back to the oil and in particular a question for those who know. I've used the Pennzoil Q&C recommends until my last change and switched to Castrol. I did because Pennzoil changed their formula for that particular oil in the 5w30. So now that it has Nat Gas incorporated into it, I got skittish. I don't know how long nat gas synthetic's been around. I was PM'ing briefly with a friend about this. So I'll repeat my PM below. I'd appreciate any input.
With regard to whether Nat Gas oil is better, I think it's more my ignorance on the topic more than anything. I've seen the marketing info, but not enough of an opposing view to weigh an opinion.

The comments in this Q&A are thin as it doesn't elaborate.
This one provides more detail:

They still have my benefit of doubt (yes just going on gut with the nat gas thing) (how is that any different than others going on gut on no-reputation companies) because they demonstrated they go above and beyond. For instance.
You call Castrol and they will tell you not all their oil is the same. Only the ultra expensive is good and you cant buy it anywhere. Fair enough.
You call mobil and they will tell you they dont make a oil for my 5.0
You call Jaguar and they say the old $20 pennzoil was right all along and has our approval. (quite an achievement to get a stringent spec approval without having to change your formula- because they were that far ahead of everyone else when it came to cleaning, they claim 60%)
