Not too intrusive, and still great burbel and deep sound, much improved over the stock version...

My 2 cents.. good luck..

This is more or less what I've done. Fuse 19 is out, and I had this fitted in place of the mid section:

That's the Spires "stage 1" exhaust, from Spires Performance here in the UK. I know they do ship to the US so give them a call. The pipe above basically removes those center silencers and adds a crossover pipe.

This was how the car sounded with standard exhaust, minus fuse 19:

And this is it now:

So a rounder, fuller, more throaty sort of sound and maybe about 15% louder across the board, although that's a bit hard to tell from the videos. Well worth it IMHO and I personally wouldn't really want it any louder.

Thanks. Has anyone replaced that section with straight pipes instead of an x-pipe? Isn't that how the factory system is set up (except with resonators)?

The resonators act as x-sections since they are open internally.

Aha. Thanks for clearing that up. I suppose if you made the exhaust without the x-sections, there would be a significant loss in power, right?

I believe it is more about balancing the pulses of exhaust from the 2 banks of cylinders.

By the way the H pipe is less efficient, hence the X.

Does anyone know what the configuration of the XKR-S and F-Type exhaust are?

Something I learned when interviewing one of the Jag team about the XKR 75: the crossover exhaust is worth a few horsepower, though I don't know how many. The nominal 20 HP gain for the 75 was achieved partly through the exhaust mod, and partly through ECM changes.

R-S has the Performance Active Exhaust (crossover type)

Has anyone opened up the muffler to see if the inside mixes both pipes or is it separate per bank. Meaning does the right pipe connect directly to the right exhaust header and the left to the left.

So how much is this compleat replacement, I wonder if they would sell just the x pipe might save on shipping. also is it S/S . Thanks Bernie

So the F-Type V8 has a crossover, just like the R-S.

I haven't opened the muffler, but there's a diagram in the 4.2 workshop manual (strangely missing from the 5.0 manual) that shows the exhaust flow as separate:

I think he meant that the small silencers in the middle section are internally open, a bit like crossover pipes.

My understanding is that they're not; I gather they're just straight pipes with a couple of boxes full of glass fibre welded on to them so the crossover in the XKR-S and XKR75 Performance Active exhaust is a new thing.

I think I paid around GBP 500 for the pipes plus shipping to me in Scotland, overseas would I guess be more. I had a go at fitting it myself on my driveway with the car on axle stands but ended up getting a garage to do it, took the guy a couple of hours.

Edit to add - yes it is stainless steel.

Hmmm... this is good info. So I guess the question remains--has anyone removed the resonators and replaced them with parallel straight pipes (not a crossover)? I wonder how that would sound compared to the crossover.

Thanks for the info to my Q. Another Q. If the the small silencers are internally open Then they are like as you say straight pipes, so what is the point of taking them off,The sound should be no different, so is it the crossover that is producing the diff.??, Maybe Im missing something here, Im assuming the crossover exhaust changes the L. inlet to R. outlet and vice versa, so how can this change the sound. When I put exhausts on my St rods the main thing is no cats .but headers as large a pipes as pos and st threw mufflers ( silencers ). Bernie.

The crossover is open to both banks, that is how it balances the exhaust.

OK. Ive just spent the last hr. learning about Crossover and H type, And now understand it more , Im old school dealing with lower reving engines , what I have found out is that the Crossover is better at higher revs as far as power goes . but according to what I read it is quieter and no popping. On the other hand the H type is better at the lower revs but not as good at the higher end for power , but has a deeper sound and more crackle & pop, Myself Im more for the sound not the power, I find the XKR has all the power I need , but I would like it to sound more aggressive, My 40 Caddy sounds like it has all the power in the world with its 500 hp ,but is nowhere near as fast as my Jag. but sounds better.

I did find the crossover on Jeggs web page it is around $100. or less.

I thank you all for this post . You learn something every day. Bernie

I agree with this post. I, too, would like more crackle and pop--in a car like this, I prefer sound to absolute performance. But I can't find any cases of anyone installing an H-pipe in an XKR.
