Default 5.0 XKR coolant recommendations

Started a new thread as going off topic on the other.

Will do a full flush and fill on my 2010 5.0 xkr. Any reccomendations on premixed coolant available in the UK?

go with this coolant and add some coolant additive and your XKR will work forever.I discovered coolant alone isn't enough in my old XKR i use to have and it use to bust brand new pipes i use to put on it and it literally melted the coolant tank 1 time and I had to replace it,so imagine what other kind of damage it was causing before I discovered I needed to be using a coolant additive?I haven't had a problem ever since I start using this stuff to make the coolant work better than it should.I hear a lot of people in the forums complaining about water pumps going out,and that sounds crazy and all but I think your stock water pump will last forever once you figure out how to prevent that from happening and I think a coolant additive is all it needs to save your water pump from your wallet

The critical consideration with coolant is SPECIFICATION and not BRAND. The XK requires a 50% mixture of water and coolant to specification WSS M97B44 (usually coloured orange) Extended Life Coolant.

What brand you choose meeting this specification is largely irrelevant. A Google search on "coolant + WSS M97B44" will return many high street and trade sources for both concentrate and pre-mixed.

Noting you are in the UK, there's a remarkable array of players in the field but Prestone and Comma are long established. Given the inevitable progress towards another total lockdown here, availability and delivery are likely to be prime considerations in choice of brand.

Thanks, G. Was looking at the prestone.

Seems fill in cooling system is 10litres so 11-12 litres should do it with a good flush.

I admire your spirit doing a flush at this time of year.

It was -11 deg C here last night and has barely crawled above freezing now. It must be even more bracing north of the border.

Coldest it ever got when I was a wee lad in Minnesota was -58F, or -50C. Add windchill to that and it's a miserable time.

It must be an OAT coolant, commonly known as DexCool. It should be changed no longer than every 5 years as it’s pH changes and becomes acidic and corrosive.

That's another destination struck off the future holiday list.

15 litres of comma super long life ordered.

Decided to get new water pump while I'm at it. I guess my current 10 year old one isn't long for this world judging by some of the things I've read/been advised.

5l xkr uses 13.8l of coolant

Put 'WSS-M97B44-D' into ebay and it can be had for less than £20 for 5l delivered. Perhaps less if coupons are used for the Comma stuff

Know as asked the question when switching to Evans warerless, so 10 for the 5.0xk amd 13.8 for the XKR.

Was on amazon for 12.99 for 5l of comma stuff delivered. Glad I got 15 litres as the handbook said 10ish litres of the xkr and slightly more for the xk

Tom t'other way around 5l xkr uses 13.8l of coolant xk 5l 10l, appreciate the cooling to the SC on an R and makes sense.

As you've discovered put 'WSS-M97B44-D' into ebay and it can be had for less than £20 for 5l delivered. Perhaps less if coupons are used for the Comma stuff on ECP, carparts4less and suchlike.

Know the capacity as asked the question when switching to Evans warerless on another thread

Hmm, my jag handbook is either inaccurate, or you are. Guess we will find out when I get round to it.

Will post a pic of what I'm referencing tomorrow

If the OP ordered 15l, he's fine but you're correct on capacity Marky.

Thanks, I saw your PDF Justtttttom. It's wrong. It also makes no sense that an N/A would require less than an SC. The screenshot I posted above is from the workshop manual. Like I mentioned, if you ordered 15Liters, you're covered either way.

Really odd. Must be a typo as I found that online and also have that in my car booklet.

Doesn't matter either way, just odd.

Note the entry in the Driver's Handbook the quoted capacities are approximate.

Why would Jaguar bother to put the actual quantities in the Driver's Handbook. We know from long experience on the forums no one ever reads them.

Sean's graphic is from the Workshop Manual. That has to be right becauase there's a chance a Jaguar Technician may read it.
