Hi JA,

Thank You very much for checking in

Yesterday they put in a new Interstate MT-93/T8 800 cca battery. This morning I went to pick it up and the car would not start. No crank. I had lights, windows, radio but zero crank. I tried the suggestion mentioned here; hold start button and then press pedal. Nothing.

The tech came out and hooked up his OBD. He said give me two days. They send the data to a tech in England who tries to narrow down the alternatives to the problem.
As the owner of the company had warned me putting in a new ABS may not solve the problem but they do not know where to go from here as their diagnostics can't talk to the ABS module. Not being able to get past this they can't determine if another component is involved i.e. transmission module not detecting car is in park for example

I have only had the car for two weeks and experienced random starting problems. Once at the shop they experienced the same thing. They told me one day they could not get it to start. Later in the day they went out and it started right up?

Jagbits has an 09 module from the same VIN sequence ($1000). The Jaguar dealer in Hartford,CT (25 miles away) said they can program this for $179. The Jaguar dealer in Boston told they can too but expect to pay more as once they program the ABS they probably will need to update other modules the ABS talks to.

Waiting to hear back from my shop.

Just took a call from the shop. They were able to isolate the ABS module and can now continue to scan and hunt down the source of the no start.

I am not sure if anyone else has asked or mentioned this yet, but have you changed the batteries in your FOB? Do you hear anything when you press the button? When my vert doesn't start on the first try, I still hear a faint click from the back. Do you see any messages? If you try starting it without the key nearby do you see a warning message?

good thinking @Steven07XK …. and / or put the fob into its home in the centre arm rest.

My start procedure is slightly different from most. Since I adopted it I have NEVER had an issue.
1. depress and release the start button. (do not touch the brakes)
2. wait for all dings, chimes, startup sounds to subside.
3. depress and hold start button
4. now touch the brake.

Additionally, I turn off all accessories prior to shutdown.

Truly, there are a number of electrical components that are particularly demanding of voltage and current. It is possible that your ABS module is done…. but very unlikely. If a cold car, after sitting all night cannot show at least 12.6v in the morning, you (or others) will be chasing their tails. ( or is it tales

Many of the systems that have the privilege to disallow a start are examples of these demanding components.

Hi Steven,

I changed the battery in the FOB as soon as I got it. I had a message " FOB Battery low" or something to that effect. We didn't hear anything when we hit the start button. I did have radio, windows, lights etc. The key is always on the console slot. We tried it while holding the key. Did not try taking the FOB outside the car

Hi Guy,

Yes, we tried a variation this start procedure. Depress and hold start button....then apply brake. I will try it using your method. It had a brand new, literally the day before, battery.. 800 cca.

They will be communicating with the car today as their contact in the UK, a very experienced Jaguar tech, has told them how to continue querying modules by going around the non-responsive ABS module.

Thanks for your help

Stand by. I'll post results as I know them

Is there a micro switch not making contact properly for the brake pedal?

Good suggestion......I'll ask them to look into that. By the way your suggestion of XeModeX was a good one. I talked with one of their Customer Service guys who was very helpful.

Thanks

Solved. So finally after much dialog with JLR in England we replaced the starter switch and performed a software update. That has solved the intermittent starting problem. Interestingly JLR showed options on my car that my car does not have such as adaptive cruise control. According to my mechanic that happens frequently on Land Rovers.
Last item to fix is "Cannot Apply Parking Brake." The part is not expensive but labor is approximately ten hours as the back end has to be dropped to access the module.
Still like my car but a lot of angst getting it to be fault free.

Thanks to all who chipped in with advice and suggestions

Starter switch? Do you mean the one on the console?

SDD will show routines or configurations which may or may not be fitted to yours.

As for the parking brake, are you referring to the actuator which's buried in the rear end?
