ACC will not bring the car to a complete stop since it automatically disengages at 18mph and below.
Limited detection and warning of objects ahead is provided during ACC operation by the ACC FORWARD ALERT warning. The enhanced Forward Alert feature additionally provides warnings while ACC is not engaged; if an object is detected close ahead, then the warning tone and message will be issued. The brakes will not be applied. The Forward Alert system does not initiate any action, the driver must take appropriate action when the FORWARD ALERT message is displayed. However, the system monitors driver actions (e.g. braking, steering or indicating) and may not initiate the warning display if the appropriate action has been taken early enough.
The Pedestrian Protection System is not available on North American market X150 models.

... when drivers had to be alert, used their left foot for the clutch pedal, and cars didn't have touchscreens or cupholders.
P.S. 42 years of great fun. Gorgeous, but a deathtrap.

Thank You! I appreciate the level of detail.

A few hopefully helpful notes about the Forward Alert (distinct from the Adaptive Cruise Control):
I keep my "forward alert" on all the time. There's a button to the left of the steering wheel you have to press to engage it. It will remain engaged when you shut the car off, but if you disconnect the battery you'll have to remember to press it again.
As noted, it won't "alert" you (those beeps) if you're taking any action at all-- in other words, if your foot's on the brake, even a little. This has gotten me in trouble once or twice when LA freeway traffic goes from "slowing down" to "dead stop" suddenly. If your foot's on the brake at all you won't get an alert even if the car in front of you is stopped.
Second: set the volume as loud as you can. (I'd actually like to be able to set it louder) This is done in the "vehicle" section (I think) on the touch screen.
