Adaptive cruise control error

Adaptive cruise control error
Most of the time's my ACC works well, however when a car jumps quite close in front of me from another lane, the ACC displays DRVER INTERVENE, which is normal. When the obstacle is gone, the cruise control cannot be switched back on reporting CRUISE NOT AVAILABLE. I need to stop and shut down the car. When restarting the car cruise is available again.
Any thoughts how to fix this? Is there a way to reset the cruise while driving?

Are there any Diagnostic Trouble Codes? Is your battery fully charged? Winter cold is tough on batteries.
See this thread from 2013. Your car may be affected by TSB JTB00086 software update.

I get DRIVER INTERVENE all the time when using ACC when I hit the brakes or override the programmed deceleration, then I hit the RESUME button and it all works wonderfully. I can't see how it would be a malfunction when it occurs every time the driver intervenes, be it by brakes or accelerator pedal.

From the manual:
If a malfunction occurs during operation of the system in cruise or follow modes, the ACC system will switch off and cannot be used until the fault is cleared. The message DRIVER INTERVENE appears briefly, and is then replaced by the message CRUISE NOT AVAILABLE. If malfunction of the ACC, or any related system, occurs at any other time, the message CRUISE NOT AVAILABLE will be displayed. It will not be possible to activate the ACC system in any mode.
- An audible alarm will sound, accompanied by the message DRIVER INTERVENE, if the ACC detects:
- A failure has occurred while the system is active.
- That using maximum ACC braking only is not sufficient.
- A failure has occurred while the system is active.

I am with you though, I spend 90% of my time using Adaptive Cruise and Driver Intervene is pretty common if you use it around town. The car has calculated that its pre-programmed maximum rate of braking will be insufficient to avoid a collision so it is asking the driver to take control. What isn't normal is it then becoming unavailable so, as Stuart mentioned, are their any fault codes being logged?
