Adaptive Headlight Issues (recurring issue)

I have a 2010 XKR and my drivers side adaptive headlight went out about 2 years ago and it was replaced with a new assembly. The replaced assembly was never quite as bright as the original or passenger side. A few weeks ago my drivers side adaptive headlight went out again! This time it got stuck cross eyed and the motor was shaking. After replacing it, it continued to get stuck cross eyed intermittently and was still never quite as bright as the original or passenger side. Sometimes both lights are crossed intermittently. I took it back to the dealer and they want to replace the passenger side because they said it is causing the drivers side to go into limp mode. If i didn't have a warranty, this would have end up costing me a total of $9600. Is the dealer ripping me off or is it common to have issues with these headlights? I have a feeling that even after replacing the passenger side, I will have to take it back for this issue again. Any idea what the root cause could be? Am I having bad luck?

First and foremost, download the free X150 service manual and wiring diagrams so you can learn to do some free / cheap troubleshooting first. Unplug the passenger side yourself and see what the drivers does. if it's OK, then it's plausible there's something wrong in the passenger side. If not, they are blowing smoke up your...
You can swap the lamp housing side to side to troubleshoot the housings and swap the adaptive modules on the back of the housings to isolate if you have a problem with them. Personally I've had wiring issues internal to the housing, a wire broke and needed repaired. Had two occurrences since I bought mine. Another member just had a similar problem that ended up being a ground near the lamps. Dim lights screams voltage loss and you should have had the dealer remedy their work when first performed.

Hi Khan,
Here is the direct link to the 2010-up Service Manual: http://www.jagrepair.com/images/Auto...XKworkshop.pdf
As Ranchero mentioned this is "The Bible" for XKR if you plan on doing repairs yourself. Lots of good troubleshooting guides in there that may lead you to your issue.
Hope that helps,
Dave

Your car will throw a code. It is programmed for the AFS lights and will throw a fit if it doesn't find them.
