Corvette owner in question was having issue with traction, even with using launch control , ps4 s tires and with mid rear engine , didn't help him much . His best time of the night was 8.1 . I was running slower than usual as well, was hitting 8.2 most of the night where on other tracks I can easily be at 8.0

Im trying out MT SS tires for first time , have been at this track more than a few times and have been at 8.2 on street tires . My 60ft was nothing special 1.92 I think on most runs , I have hit 1.89 on street tires here before ...

I did a 1.78 60 foot when I did my 126 mph terminal speed and my best ever is 1.756 but they are usually high 1.8s or low 1.9's.

I would love to try drag radials on mine to improve on that but it is not worth getting a second set of wheels and tyres and I also don't want to break something!

My wife's old Audi S4 was at the track last time I was there with some serious upgrades done to it and the guy who owns it now broke the prop shaft and diff on his last run so went home on a flat bed

Great runs here. I haven't seen any 1/8 mile runs for C8's but all of the stuff posted on youtube is 1/4 mile. Also the video you showed didn't sound like the recommended launch control . As I mentioned it requires you to turn off all of the nanny traction stuff while in track mode. The OM has a page on doing it for drag racing. Also I couldn't tell but have to assume he did not use manual shifting as if you do you need to be good because if you hit the rev limiter you blow your times. The auto shift works way better. As Stated in the OM while in launch mode step hard on the brake , gas peddle to the floor and when revs hit 3500 max. let go of the brake and hold on. The key still remains reaction time. I do recall with my 2012 XKR if I would have tried that the tires wouldn't stop spinning. But then again I like the smell of burning rubber. Hey , have fun as life is short.

Actually I have seen an s8 breaking a shaft at one of the events too. I think he was doing 1.5-1.6 60ft times, these AWD Audis are amazing at launching , we have s6, s5, s4 in the group and with minimal mods they have hit as low as 7.5 in 1/8th mile , makes me jealous honestly I'm surprised that drag radials haven't helped me to launch much better, I can still roast them if i'm not carefull in 1st gear, probably full slicks are the way to go instead, they have made runs a lot more consistent though.
If you can hit 1.78 60 ft on street tires you are doing very very good.
Jagtoes I will post more videos from inside of my camera angle vs the Corvette, we probably raced four, five times. I talked to the owner and he said that he was trying everything including launch control.

Default 4.2 isn't faster but it won’t break

Ive had multiple 4.2 engines with over 100,00 and zero issues. Ive also had 5.0 and 3.0 spin bearings after 70k. Not to mention water pumps and bad plastic hoses on both 3.0 and 5.0.
they are great while running however dont count on long term reliability even with OCD maintenance… they are seriously flawed engines
just search the threads here for numerous failed 3.9 and 5.0 engines.

I'd still want a 5.0 over a 4.2

Indeed the discussion is very much oriented on the engine; I wrote in another post that I had to proceed to a partial rebuild of my 4.2 liters for 4000 euros... no engine is immune to problems!
This is not the case in the USA but in France with 412 HP we are at the top of the predator scale! So much so that I rarely use the vehicle's power, the torque and the engine's pleasure are enough for me.
Last detail that our American friends cannot imagine, the taxes! To register a used car, the difference between a 31 hp XKR and a 42 hp XKR, the first one from 2007 and the second one from 2012 is 1400 euros... I think I remember that in Montana there is no VAT... Happy men...

The US have one time (per sale) state sales tax, county sales tax and on some cases gas guzzler taxes, on the sale price of the vehicle, néw or used regardless of age and based on the registration location. In Florida it is 6%, so $600 per $10k of the final invoice. Montana does not have sales tax, which makes it attractive to those with super cars and the like to process the sales transaction and registration of the vehicle license in that state.

Annual registration renewal tax in this state however are indeed extremely minor, usually less than $100.

Depends state to state, im near $400 per year for this car; some states do current value taxation for registration renewal, some do curb weight, some do based on new msrp with a semi graduated scale, etc.

For initial purchase, my state at least uses sales tax of 6% on the reported purchase price. Then msrp based (with reduction over 3 tiers to make it more complicated lol) for renewal from then on. Tax has nothing to do with engine displacement, horsepower, etc; just value.

Utah is Age-Based. There's a table somewhere that states what taxes are due for which year manufactured. Get a Lamborghini, same tax as a Kia of the same year.

Part of what one pays for the "privilege" of living in CA is everything but the air you breathe is taxed very heavily based on original value and decreasing (somewhat) with age. My last license fee on the 13 XKR was $481.

Sure there is, it's where the tax revenue ends up and the tax director skims off millions.

Here's an example of legal corruption:

https://www.ajc.com/news/local-govt-...IAy5PbdVykRVN/

His salary is $161,000, and his office earns separate fees for processing property tax bills for various cities in Fulton County (Atlanta), including Brookhaven, Sandy Springs, and Johns Creek. He pockets most of those fees, which more than doubles his salary, due to a quirk in Georgia law that should have been corrected years ago by the Georgia Legislature. That fee revenue was earned by the employees who did the work, who should benefit more than he does. It's legal, but wrong.
