Default Advice on Replacement CD player

Folks,

Researched this without success.

My CD player has jammed on my '07 XK. Pulled it apart and realized that I'd probably destroy it trying to repair it.

Rather than sending it away to get fixed, I'd rather just buy a used one. I installed Bluetooth successfully, but the OCD in me wants to fix the CD player.

Please see the pic of my unit, below. Many on Ebay, but the only difference in the product number is my unit uses a "-PF" suffix, and the ones on Ebay use a "-TA" suffix. Can't find a -PF suffix anywhere.

Also, note that the manufacturing date was 0606, which fits my VIN date.

So, questions:

1. Can I use a "-TA" suffix in my head unit?
2. Are the '08-12 head units different enough that I must use an '06-'07 replacement?
3. Is SDD reprogramming required with a replacement unit?

Thanks for your experience!

Technically you should use SDD whenever replacing a module so I'm not 100% certain it's plug and play. yes it's interchangeable. Just confirm that it's standard or premium (check the pins in the back of the unit.

Otherwise I have on out of my 07 I can sell you. It's a base unit. I upgraded my system from Base audio to premium

I had issues where my CDs were jamming, couldn't eject, couldn't get them to play for more than a few seconds etc...it was the battery!!!
Is your car battery fully ok?

Thanks! As it happens, I replaced the battery with new a few days after the jam. No joy, I'm afraid. Still stuck.

I would reach out to Cambo, a moderator on this forum. He gave me the correct part number to replace mine. It’s definitely plug and play, no SDD required. I think that the “TA” may be a newer version of the part, but best to check with Cambo.

Yes the TA is a newer version. As long as the the numbers match you should be good to go. If the numbers change, then there was likely a hardware or firmware change but that's not an issue here. Like I said, I have one ending in PF will let go for cheap but you're safe to buy the one ending in TA off fleabay. Mine is for the standard entertainment system, not Premium.

I looked at my notes. I got an error code when I updated my BT module but it was because I went from 6W83-10D893-AF to 9W83-10D893-AA.

I PM'd Cambo, and he confirms Sean's comments.

"These head units are all interchangeable.6G9N18C815PD
6G9N18C815PE
6G9N18C815PF
6G9N18C815TA
7G9N18C815TA
7G9N18C815TB
The last version 7G9N-18C815-TB is going to be the most available, these were also used in the Jaguar XF and the Land Rover Freelander 2.

You might find the "Land Rover" ones are cheaper 2nd hand.

No programming needed just a straight swap."

Including for future reference if the issue comes up again. Thanks, Cambro.

So, off to get a replacement CD player for <$75.

Best,

Panthera
