Default Advice on whether to purchase XK 5.0 without working paddle shift.

Hi there, I'm looking to purchase my first XK and I have found one online which is within my budget of 10K. It is a 2009 5.0 with 142,000 miles. Looks like it has a full service history and has been well looked after. Only thing is that the paddle shift and cruise control is not working and I have no idea what this would cost to fix. The dealership does not seem to know either. If anyone has experience of this problem I would be very grateful for any advice.

Cruise control could be something to do with the brake light switch module but I would have thought that an ODB scan would provide a better answer that you might get on here.

Not an XK but my XJ only paddle shifts when put into sport mode

My XKR will paddle shift in Drive or sport mode

Also 2010 was the 5.0, 2009 was the 4.2

A little more on the pricing of the cars or your budget will help steer the thread. The paddles could be an easy fix. I wasn't enamoured with the paddles on my XK or XE. Jaguar does a good job of being in the right gear in auto.

Alex26 is in the UK so will be quoting registration year and there are actually a few 2008 registered 5 litre cars kicking around.

If both cruise control and the paddles aren't working, a common element are the contacts from the steering wheel. Might also be worth checking.

Welcome to the forums Alex,

It's a lottery but the first step in troubleshooting is a diagnostics session with factory SDD (Symptom Driven Diagnostics). If you .....

1. have the skills, equipment and patience to work on the vehicle yourself
OR
2. don't care too much about paddle shift or cruise control

..... then it's worth considering. Alternatively, if you would need a specialist to run diagnostics and and then carry out necessary repairs, the budget will soon be blown. Be in no doubt, four figure repair bills on these vehicles are not unusual.
