I did this about a year ago on a set of headlights that the wire insulation had fallen off of. Removing the lens was not very hard but the wiring portion was very tedious. I ended up cutting the lead about less than an inch from the connector and using some of those low temp solder and adhesive connectors. Seemed to work well as you just use a butane torch around the outside to fuse and melt the adhesive/solder on the two wires while giving a protective seal and coating around the outside. Everything seemed to work out fine but after the hassle of it all I would have spent the extra dollars if a replacement harness was ever to be available.

Any suggestions on what type and gauge of wire to use in the process?
