Are all Jag owners on a first name basis with their mechanic??
So I bought a XKR and now I am on first name basis with my mechanic, so much so that I will be hurt if he does not invite me over for Christmas dinner/ super ball / and the world soccer cup final.
No kidding aside… I have had the car for about 10 months and here are the problems I have encountered.
1. Strange rattle form the glove box, only around 5000 revs plus, resolved, but now I can’t lock the dam thing.
2. Was not happy with the gear changes, new software for the transmission and transmission oil change. Resolved
3. TPMS fail, had to replace the sensors, resolved
4. Error messages, no reve matching ect ect, resolved with a new battery and a tender.
5. Engine light. 2 new lambda sensors fitted and resolved
6. ABD ESP light, resolved by replacing a faulty ABS sensor
7. Finally, strange faint rattle from the front end of the car. Thought it might be the suspension, or a loose cable or something. Appears when I drive on uneven surfaces. Sound like a loose screw or two thing pieces of metal that have not been tightened together. Not sure what it is yet… but I will find it cost what it will :=) hate rattles...
So is this excessive or just what you can expect from a 50000 mil 74t km Jag??? The above has acutally not been an expensive ordeal, but I have been more often than what I am used to at the local shop..
Still love the car though

I'm on my second XKR and haven't had the need to see or know a mechanic for any service other than scheduled maintenance . I had a minor set back when I purchased my 2013 at the dealer because of the infotainment software update required the module to be shipped to NJ for reinstallation. However, I don't drive my cars to 50,000 miles. I usually only drive them for a year or two at the most putting about 5-6,000 miles on them at the most. Sorry to hear about your problems.

I'm on a first name basis with mine but not because of issues with the car. He's an indie and worked for a local Jag dealer for a boatload of years before opening his own place a good number of years ago. Thanks Rodney...Chris Khun.
He loses business with me because he talks me out of unnecessary costs. Recently, I wanted a transmission oil change at 75K mi to the tune of $800 USD.
He'd never heard of that...100K mi minimum and researched and researched and even called the service manager at the local Jag dealership. Not necessary at this time. How about $55 USD for an oil and filter change...top o' the line oil and filter.
About a year ago he tried to talk another customer out of buying a "fresh" water salvage titled 2009 XKR for 20 grand. The customer bought it and, yup, salt water. It was so bad the customer had to buy a totaled XKR just for parts. Very interesting for me to see the car brought down to its innards. These things ain't no flathead six. Well, he put it back together and it probably cost the customer twice what the car was worth.
Sorry for the ramble but yes, I am thrilled to be on a first name basis with my expert.
Best to all,

I'm on a first-name basis with mine, but that's because I've been taking my Jags to them for 15 years.
That does sound like more issues than I'd expect, particularly the multiple sensor failures. My car is only a year younger, and has done about 30k, but I haven't had anything major fail in the year-and-a-bit that I've owned it. Had failures in the iPod module and the high-mounted stop lamp fixed under warranty; nothing else other than some initial battery issues.

Whatever car I'm driving, I know the service managers / Indy specialists, etc etc all on a first name basis.
I make it my business to get to know them, and they me and also how I treat my car.
It makes for a great personal relationship, generally good service, good pricing and many other plus points.......you never know the minute you're going to need these guys.
Sorry to hear about your issues, all relatively minor really though.........hope you enjoy the car and the forum.
Cheers

I have a local Linc / Jag dealer and the Jag tech left and they called me and cancelled my service appt. because they would not let anyone else work on the vehicle but a cert Jag tec. Which I thought was a good thing.
