That is possible if it is a tracker. I had one fail on a motorcycle a couple of years ago and it could drain the battery in five or six hours.

if the car was financed the some finance companies require them.

If you put your car on a battery tender such as a CTek you won't have to worry about it soaking up your battery. If you don't want to use a tracker the best thing to do is to take it out along with all the wiring devoted to it.

I have a Tracker (UK Lo-jack equivalent) in mine and it doesn't seem to cause significant drain.
