Any info on this! (reverse camera)

To be clear, I gave up on using the those Fakra connectors referenced above. I have NOT given up on the backup camera project in general, I just have not had time to work on it lately. My approach uses GVIF.

Well yes and no...
I still don't have the camera or the cable from China yet, but some other research has been made. Mix of good and bad news....
The software in the 06-09 X150 touchscreen does not include the reverse camera support.
The software in the 2010-onward X150 touchscreen does (i.e. if you have a 2010 onward X150 without a camera, what was previously suggested with the fakra input and aftermarket camera will work, if activated in the CCF)
It's not possible to flash the 2010-onward X150 software into the 06-09 X150 touchscreen (just doesn't accept it), also not possible to flash the X250 XF software into the 06-09 X150 touchscreen.
However it is possible to fit a 2010 onward X150 touchscreen into an 06-09 X150, and it works (so the camera would be supported)
And it also appears that if you got a touchscreen from an XF up to 2011MY and put it in the X150, it would also work, and the aftermarket camera would be supported.
I'm just waiting on a cheap touchscreen from an XF to pop up...
It's not a standalone routine i.e. "add parking camera" or something like that, which is out in the open. It's a field in the CCF, and is most likely locked out in later versions of SDD anyhow, only available with Engineering Mode enabled (or other means of unlocking).

That makes sense since the 2009 and older systems use an animated representation of the parking sensors and the 2010+ does not. So this brings up another question, where does the steering angle data go? To the touch screen or is there another module that is part of the camera and generates the parking lines? And since you say it is a function built into the newer touch screens then I would think there would be no need for software flashing or editing the CCF.
EDIT:
Just to confirm, since the 2010+ X150 and XF use a different network protocol, would that have any impact on touch screen compatibility?

Yes, I had to rewrite the CAN bus code for the Remote Top for the 5.0 Liter models.

wouldn't this be a simpler approach?
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PADJZNA...I1KG6TR4SWCBZ9
wire the camera to either the reverse inhibitor wire at the mirror or to the back up light? It would certainly look and act OEM.

This is probably a stupid question, and I apologize if it is. Has anyone looked into reprogramming the touch screen display so that it boots up to navigation rather than the home screen when the vehicle is started? If that were possible I would think it would make a GVIF interface more workable.

There is one on eBay now 2009-2011 XF. I would assume a CCF edit would not be necessary as the software is built into the touch screen, so theoretically all I would have to do is swap screen and plug in the camera and it would work?

Perl???
Anyone spring for the Perl backup system? They had a "black Friday" deal going, wherein, they knocked off a $100. It ended the 28th, however, may be able to talk them in to a steal deal?
Seems like a good alternative in lieu of chasing the re-do of the existing screen and tearing into the electronics of the existing nav system. I like the versatility as it can be installed up front to protect agains those nasty parking blocks.

So a few questions,
Does the head unit automatically detect a signal and switch to the backup camera display on 2010+ units?
To turn on the backup camera, you need to trigger from a signal. I'm not sure about pre-2010 cars but the signal on 2010+ cars can't come from the backup lights ( like you can on most other cars) because of the pulsed signal that comes into them. Do you need to read the canbus to detect when a car goes into reverse? If so, what devices would work?

I was then able to tap into that new backup lamp wire to trigger my GVIF unit to feed the reverse camera image to the NAV display.

Well I'll be the guinea pig. I ordered an XF touchscreen, so first thing to do is to determine that it will work in an XK.

Update on swap
Update time:
I received the touchscreen yesterday an installed this morning.
The Fakra connector still hasn't come in and I've yet to order a camera, but thought I would test the touchscreen swap.
Mixed news. After the install, I did a hard reset on the battery which was already disconnected. Upon starting the car.
All features work EXCEPT climate. Initially it didn't display properly. The second time I started the car, the buttons appear but are grayed out.
The seat heater and steering wheel heat function worked both times. The Auto button works, the off button does nothing.
