Default Anybody have insight on owning an Aston?

Hey gang
went to go get the jag serviced today and in the process there was a 15MY AM DB9 Volante forsale on the lot! Holly cow what a sight!!!
The lines on this vehicle are incredible and it was accentuated in this hyper silver color that just left me Drooling 🤤 and repeatedly looking over my shoulder as I walked away from it...

anyhow my question is are any of you guys on this forums previous or current Aston Martin owners? And if so how much of a difference/experience are we speaking about when it comes to issues and reliability with these type of vehicles?
I mean if I were to purchase I do understand that typical maintenance would be more costly... But on parts reliability and issues is there that much of a difference between our current jaguar XKRs and astons??!!

thanks you for any n all reply in adv gang.

Keep healthy
-dag

They are heavier cars than the Jag X150. Some models of DB9 use the same ZF automatic transmission. From people I have known who have had late model Astons, they are prone to fluid leaks and electrical gremlins. Manual transmission version use complex trans-axles and clutches that need regular service at a cost of around $10K each time.

But I'm sure other members here who have owned them can chime in as well.

The automated manual transmission, if fitted, is horrendous. Drive it in stop and go traffic preferably at rush hour. Most dealers will schedule test drives when the traffic is light and will direct you on to open roads where the transmissions act somewhat normally then the other great line is, oh, they are all like this, you need to learn how to drive them. Drive a car with a PDK and you will realize how bad the automated transmission is in the Aston.

I think that was only fitted to the Vantage but I totally agree. I test drove one before buying my current XKR and it was awful.

I test drove a DB9 as well and it was a lot lazier and than the XKR. The XKR has the advantage of the supercharger so you don't need large throttle openings to induce warp speed.

Yes, that's me! Aston is just as reliable as Jaguar and as easy to work on in general. Parts are more money, but they would be more on 200K Jaguar as well. Aston's can have their faults, but what car doesn't have something? We all can't just drive a Camry because we are worried about repairs. One thing to keep in mind owning an Aston is the expectation of keeping it tip top is higher than a regular car. Almost like you are just the care taker of the car while it's in your possession.

Aston is very good at evolving the model and the later model year you can buy; the better. If you have a more direct question, I can give better direct answer.

The Sportshift is meant for real sports car driving and the throttle must be articulated like driving a manual. The Sportshift is a real manual hydraulically actuated clutch. Sportshift has gone through 3 iterations, with 2nd and 3rd being quite good. Sportshift III I believe has faster shift times than the PDK.

The DB9 it's a traditional torque converter ZF, but done as a transaxle. Both the Vantage and DB9 have transaxles.
