Default Anyone Had This Happen To Them Or Have A Clue

2008 XK - Went out last night - pulling into a parking spot. Stopped momentarily while turning the car engine started racing - like I had my foot on the brake and then stepped on the gas at the same time. My foot was on the brake so I'm not really sure if it would have gone forward if my foot wasn't on the brake. It only lasted a couple of seconds but scared the hell out of us. Anyone?
I just got the car a couple of weeks ago ...
Thanks in advance for information....

It happened to me last week and it scared the hell out of me. I was stopping at a red light and the engine raced while my foot was on the brake. I had to stand on the brake to keep from crashing into the car in front of me. I just assume that my sized 14 feet were hitting both pedals, but it didn't feel like it. Hasn't happened again since, and I've been extra careful to make sure that I place my right foot distinctly on each pedal.

If your right foot makes contact with the right corner of the brake pedal, it's very easy to inadvertently simultaneously press the gas pedal even if your feet aren't massive. I've done it (and I'm a size 10), and now make a conscious effort to put my right foot squarely on the center of the brake pedal. When it happened, for an instant I thought the car took off on its own but realized that I had my foot on both pedals.

Happened to me at a petrol station when i pulled in and went to move to a pump. Had my foot on the brake and accelerate pedal and caused a massive burnt out. People watching all clapped, though i did it on purpose, so i had to look cool about it but really was quite pants filling,

Common mistake covering brake and accelerator at the same time, or accelerator rather than brake. We have people plowing into coffee shops or parked cars when moving off every 3-6 months in our city.

Happened to me two weeks ago. braked behind another car at the stopping light but the engine revved higher and my car closed in on the car in front of me. My wife started to shout and I realize my foot was on brake and gas pedal. Happened the first time, but I had new shoes (size 11,5) and must have misjudged my foot position.
Stopped my xkr 3 inches away from the car in front of me. Could have become an expensive day.

During my recovery from a knee replacement (right knee) I started using the 2 foot method . Considering my other fun car was a 3 peddle care I was used to using the left foot and the only thing you need to do is train yourself to modulate your left foot during braking. I have a 13 size shoe and have a habit of kicking the inside of the brake peddle making sure that I am not covering the brake peddle. Shades of heal/toe habits of the past.

Thanks everyone - But you guys are Sasquatches compared to my size 8's. I'm glad I put it out there. I thought that's what I may have done and couldn't believe that if this was transmission or accelerator problem that someone here would not know about it.

Like jagtoes, I've been left-foot-braking for years; I figure I'm wasting a perfectly good foot otherwise, and it only took a few drives to train the muscle memory to brake smoothly. And I gain a few ms in response time.
