Default Auxiliary junction box

I have a friend with a 2008 xk8 convertible. Car will start after some effort, run for a couple of seconds then shut down. Took it to mechanic who advised that the auxiliary junction box in the trunk is faulty and needs replacement. Part no. C2p9445 or 20669. This part is impossible to find and is listed on most sites as discontinued. I have a few questions. Does the problem sound like a junction box issue? If so, does anyone know where one can be found or is it possible to repair or rebuild the existing unit? Any other suggestions as to what the problem could be if not the junction box. We have not used a code reader to confirm the problem but thus far are relying on the mechanics opinion. The car is in beautiful condition and is of no use unless he can resolve this problem. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Sorry I can't help with the problem, but wasn't 2006 the last year for the XK8?

I've moved your question from X100 forum for the 1996-2006 XK8/XKR to X150 forum for the 2006-2014 XK/XKR forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

There are no 2008 xk8s.
Disconnect the battery earth. Remove and clean the large terminals to the box . there have been examples of bad connections between the eyelet and the cable. Check if the connections get hot when cranking. (use your finger). If the box is cracked you just discovered what epoxy is for.

Default 2006 xk8 auxiliary junction box problem

Thanks for the helpful responses. I have amended the year and apologize for the initial error. I will provide the info to my friend and we will have a look this week. I borrowed a code reader which will help for sure.

It could be many things certainly but I would first check all major ground points to the body of the car. The ground posts (any and all of them), can corrode so best to remove the cables from said posts, clean and replace. In other words, don't just look at them and give them a wiggle:-) I've experienced your symptoms in the past, though on a different car. It was a loose ground strap on the body. Doesn't cost anything to check except your time.

A little more history or background would be helpful.

I have one piece of advice as a caveat, if by chance you take your fob to be re-flashed and reprogramed, you must do ALL Three at the same time or you could orphan the fobs which are not reprogramed. Just FYI....
