Bad time of the year, or because "2020"?

I've never seen this propensity for battery problems in this forum before, ever.
Now I want to go charge my battery, even though it's only two years old and on a CTEK.
I've also noticed a larger influx of new"ish" members either, so maybe that's a reason for a ton of battery posts. Nothing wrong with that, but it may be the cause. Also good to see more people buying XKs and finding us old codgers in here with our years of wisdom and camaraderie.

Interesting. I just changed the battery on my winter car. Not because there was something wrong with the old one, but because it was 2014 Kirkland (Costco) battery and who wants to deal with non-start in the middle of the winter? Plus, with everything else going on, its no longer daily driven. So more chances to go flat.

Since I have joined I have been AMAZED how many new members sign up each week. But it seems just as many members drop off each week. Maybe I notice more as I have yet to devote anytime to "face-novel" Jaguar forums gets all my computer time.

As one of the new members Cee Jay referred to, here's a quick recap of how I came to this forum, and to Jaguar. I've ridden motorcycles for years and was a motorcycle dealer for a period. But COVID and aging convinced me that four wheels and a safety cage were more appropriate than two and none. I sold my last bike and started looking for a GT or sports car over the summer. In the running were Aston Martin, Mercedes, Porsche and Jaguar. I found my 2007 XK online and was able to inspect it with a car-knowledgeable friend - we were both impressed. It ticked all the boxes in my list of pros and seemed to have no cons. Except during the inspection the battery was under-voltage and the car would not start without a jump.
I've admired the marque since the first XKE dazzled me in high school. But this is my first Jaguar. My few weeks of owning it tell me that it's a wonderful car, exactly what I was looking for. My wife also loves to ride with me, something we used to do on the bike until a bad ski accident made that impossible.
I came to this forum because I knew nothing about the car, and the help and insight that others provide here are irreplaceable. I appreciate being a part of this group.

Like Bill, I joined the forum to learn more about the car. Actually, I used to browse the forum for months before finally deciding to buy the '11 XKR. It was only after I bought the car that I made an account and began actively posting. Originally, I was debating between the XKR and the SLK55 AMG. Reading some of the posts on here led me to get the XKR, and I'm really glad I did. From the styling to the interior, it just feels like a better, more unique car overall.
I do like this forum a lot. It really is a great source of information and knowledge. I get the impression that I'm probably one of the youngest people on here, so I always appreciate getting advice and knowledge from people with more experience with this car and with cars in general. I hope to remain an active participant here for years and pass down that knowledge to any younger members that might join.

asb, I also considered, and test-drove, an SLK55. A real little rocket. But the cabin felt very cramped and the car was being sold by a non-Mercedes dealer, who had no idea of the condition of or care taken with the car. CarFax showed it to have had several owners. I asked if a mechanic could look over the car before I purchased and they got huffy - a bad sign. When I stopped communication, they became much more willing to work with me, but by then I had found the XK I ultimately bought. It was in the hands of a private owner who gave me a lot more provenance and was perfectly willing to allow a PPI. No regrets.
