Battery related question
Hi Guys.
Is there any correct way to power down the touch screen etc if the doors remain open or the tail gate is open.
Reason i ask is that last night i had the tailgate open whilst i was remocing some of the trim. There was a nut rattling around in the tail gate. Annoying!!!! I removed the trim and got the nut. Took about 35mins or so. But whilst doing this the screen remained on, draining power. Next morning i went to start the car and it was dead. Just a clunk sound. The screen and dash went all wierd the trip settings reset themselves. Eventually it did start and is now all good. Someone said that if the battery gets too low these cars are sensitive to that and can do all sorts of stuff. It has done this before when the doors/tailgate etc were left open.
So can the screen be set to turn off or do you think the battery is faulty/not the right type. Its only 3mths old too.....Cheers

Muncher,
I'm not aware of a way to separatly power down the touchscreen; turning the engine off and locking the doors works for me. As you know, a low battery can cause all sorts of weird stuff to happen - so be sure to always lock your car to save your battery.
See this thread: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...lay-ups-73471/ and my posts ##17, 19, and 21.
Also, consider buying a good battery maintainer/trickle charger. Even though I drive my car at least once weekly, I always use a battery maintenance charger to keep the battery fully charged. I prefer the Battery Minder Plus brand that I bought on Amazon.com and haven't had any problems with it so far. I previously used a Battery Tender Jr., which failed. See my review on Amazon.com .
Hope this helps.

Hi guys thanks for the quick responses. I have done further digging and found out that the xkr (and other models maybe?) need 90amps and at least 800 cca (cold crank amps) But, and this is what i discovered. The battery must be a AGM one (Absorbed Glass Mat) The new battery i had was a lead acid one. The AGM batteries maintain a higher voltage than the acid ones. The xkr is very sensitive to voltage drop. Below a certain voltage and she'll do all sorts of weird stuff
Each time i experienced a problem was when the tailgate was open or the doors open whilst i cleaned the interior Maybe 1hour or so. It was long enough to get that voltage drop and cause it to have a duck fit lol.
I use my xkr every day so keeping it up to charge was not the problem.
I have checked with Jaguar NZ and they say that only AGM batteries should be fitted.
So anyone experiencing weird starting problems screen freeze etc. It just might be the battery.
I tell you trying to keep a fling on the side would be easier
Wife if you read this only kidding........Cheers

My 2007 XK vert is down in Indiana with my brother. Going down for 2-3 wks in 4 days. He commented 3 weeks ago that the battery power seemed to be draining. He took it to a great mechanic (worked on it before when I bought it 2 1/2 years ago) and left it for a week. Long story short: He had to pull the entire dash. Bunch of wires had melted/fused together ... and he found a dead squirrel. Maybe a few nibbles electrocuted him. I wonder if jalopnea juice sprayed liberally would deter them. Sure stopped them from chewing on my house and drove them out of some nearby tree holes/homes. Anyway, he also found a few open wires. The mechanic thinks someone removed a speaker system and don't put electrical tape or similar on the ends. He commented that luckily the car didn't catch fire and burn up. Everything seems great now. No voltage loss. Total cost was about $1075. I'm happy with that. Pulling the dash seems like a big job. I'll post the 'melted wires' later. I can't wait to get behind the wheel again.

I'm updating my post with a picture. The picture is of the parts/wiring/electrons/old Sirius radio that were removed in search for the source of my slow battery drain. Mechanic isn't sure which 'wire' was the problem but now, there is no problem maintaining maintaining proper voltage. To test it, the Jag sat for 10 days or so, without charger or being started, and it started up immediate without any evidence of weak battery. I was really pleased that the shop fixed the 'broken' window shield vents without being asked to do so when they pulled the dash off for the repair. The shop has done work on the XK previously and I'm very satisfied. I can't help but advertise for them. Anyone needing a great shop in northeast Indiana near the Michigan border should contact Filippo at (574) 307-3247. That's in Granger, IN. Eurasia Import Specialist is the business. Takes 7-10 days to get an appointment.
Some where is here was the source of my battery drainage problem. Included was old Sirius radio equipment.

It is extremely unlikely your 2006 was originally supplied with AGM. My 2007 wasn't.
